Welp, this took a while. Sorry about the lack of content and the stalling of commissions. Turns out I not only dislocated my shoulder, but also tore a ligament in it as well, which is why it’s taking so much longer to heal than a normal dislocation would. So that’s fun :,)

ANYWAY, I just finished chapter four of this, so here’s chapter threeeee. Hope you guys enjoy ^-^

From the Chaos

Chapter 3

Ocarlax, meanwhile, had been busy investigating the ocean’s new life. He’d been happy with his domain. The vast blue expanses of the world’s seas were his pride and joy. He would somersault and spin, dip and dive in the water. That was until he saw something bright orange. There shouldn’t have been anything in the oceans. The other Guardians couldn’t live in his domain, as they found breathing rather difficult. But for Ocarlax, the gills on the side of his angular face allowed him to easily extract the oxygen from the water. So seeing something out of the ordinary really was a novelty. His eyes narrowed as he cautiously swam his way towards the foreign object. He was so fixed upon the coral that he didn’t notice something else swimming towards him until it was gliding past his face. A small creature, with no limbs but a tail not unlike his own. With the creation of Fawn and nature above sea level, came with it the creation of the creatures below. Fish, crustaceans, molluscs as well as coral and anemones. The High Guardian started backwards, shocked to see anything other than his own kind, before curiously got the better of him and he swam a little closer to the small fish. It didn’t seem to be afraid of him, but rather stared back, it’s large orb-like eyes unblinking as a few bubbles escaped its small mouth. ‘No teeth’, Ocarlax noticed, and ran his tongue over his own before moving on to explore his new underwater jungle. Ravines filled with life, forests of coral lit up the sea bed, creating his very own underwater palace. He stared at the different colours, iring how they all seemed to almost glow, even so far down.

As he floated, inspecting some small, shelled crab it suddenly occurred to him. ‘A new High Guardian…’ he thought excitedly, before beating his tail swiftly, sending him torpedoing through the ocean and into the mouth of a river.

He didn’t know why he didn’t feel the presence of another before this moment, but he could feel a new connection. The further he went down the river, the stronger he felt the presence. But something caused him to pause. A stench so strong, even in the water. He propelled himself up to the surface, and dappled shade greeted him. The canopy overhead where the bright sky could be seen through the leaves. The stench was burning his nostrils. Sulphur and burning corpses, mixed in the with rotting flesh. His nose crinkled as he tried to block out the smell, but to no avail. Nevertheless he carried on swimming. The smell was stronger underwater, so he stayed above the blue river, travelling a little more cautiously until he heard something that made his blood run cold. A series of clicks and whirrs, shrieks and screams. His ocean blue eyes narrowed. “I knew I recognised that smell.” He hissed you himself as he saw three grotesque creatures form from crimson smoke leaking out of a small crack in the earth. He sunk a little lower in the river, as to not be seen. The three-no four creatures seemed to be circling something. Something that was glowing a bright gold. But that light was fading fast. He inches closer, clenching his fist to gain a grip on his abilities. The water started to slowly swirl around him as he waited. He needed the four snapping creatures to be in the perfect position. He wanted to engulf them at once. Drown them a swirling vortex. He was just waiting for the right time to strike. The one closest to him, the one handed creature, dragged its claws across the dirt, creating a perfect oval as they continued to circle the light. They snapped at each other, clicking their teeth as if communicating. They must have been communicating, for as soon as they stopped making noise, their movements ceased as well. Ocarlax stilled. He could hear his heart beating, thumping against his ears as he held his breath. He could hear voices. Two he recognised, the belonged to Celias and Rax, but one, a female, he didn’t recognise. Introductions could wait. He listened closely, now losing sight of the grotesque creatures, until he heard a high pitched, bloodcurdling scream. He took that as his cue. Summoning the water below him, he rose up out of the river, spraying the forest around him. From his higher position, he could see the clearing. Three dragons huddled back to back, and the four creatures. They’d turned round, acknowledging the presence of another target. They hissed and snapped, as they began to advance towards the new threat. A fatal mistake. Rax wasted no time in stretching his jaws around the neck of the creature closest to him, and snapping its head clean off. Black ichor sprayed like blood from a torn artery as agonising screams rang out from the head rolling across the floor. It stayed frozen for a fraction of a second, before crumbling to red dust.

Ocarlax too didn’t waste time, throwing an orb of rushing water, engulfing the two in front of him. They would be seen being tossed around, helplessly spinning and groping, searching for a way out, before they too returned to Chaos. Fawn has recovered her strength, and a twisted, gnarly root snapped up from the leaf covered earth, impaling the final one in the spine, through the ribcage and out the other side. There she left it, struggling to free itself, shrieking in rage and pain, before it too froze and turned to dust. Ocarlax studied the clearing from his raised platform of water. He wasn’t very well adapted for land travel, so he resorted to a wave carrying him along like a steed. His eyes narrowed as he scanned the tree line in search of any more threats, before he pronounced it clear.

“And what, may I ask, were they?” He asked, but already having a clue about the answer, which was then confirmed by Celias. The white dragon had dropped to his knees during the massacre, exhausted and drained of his magick. He was slowly picking himself back up as he answered Ocarlax.

“Chaos. Somehow, it managed to break through the earth itself.” He said thoughtfully, staggering upright. His breathing was heavier then usual, but that came with draining all of his reserves. He cautiously walked over to the still hissing crack in the ground. Only a small amount of red smoke could be seen escaping from the crevice, as he lowered his tone to Rax.

“Seal it. We can’t let anything else get through.” He ordered, something which Rax was all too happy to oblige to. With a stamp of his foot, the two sides of the fissure came together with a sharp snap, sealing away the Chaos once more. “That should keep it at bay. Although how it broke its way through, I don’t know.” He wondered aloud to the others, before he shook the thought. Something to contemplate another time. Hearing Fawn clear her throat behind him, he turned to look at the small dragoness. “Ah, yes of course. Ocarlax, this is Fawn. The new High Guardian of life.” He stepped out between the two of them so they could get acquainted.

“A pleasure.” The small dragoness smiled warmly as Ocarlax swanned up to her.

“Indeed it is. I must thank you for all you’ve done for the ocean.” He smiled gratefully in return, holding out his hand for her to shake. “It was so empty before you, so plain.” He could almost hear Rax’s eye roll.

“For the love of the cosmos, all she did was grow a few trees.” He remarked, before swiftly shutting up after the murderous stare he received from Fawn. The blue Guardian noticed the exchange between the two and laughed.

“I see you’ve already met Rax.” He shifted his gaze to the largest dragon in the group, who was busy not making eye with any of them.

“Yes, you could say that.” She sighed, amused. “But thank you. I’m glad somebody appreciates all my hard work.” She gave another pointed stare to Rax, who had at that moment taken great interest in the height of the canopy above.

“Well, I’m glad we all get along so well.” Celias remarked, smirking.
