HE'S GONNA CATCH ME! /(j_j)\

I wanted to make some theories regarding the one character I'm truly excited about in the next Danganronpa game: Gonta Gokuhara.

Quick Character Background

Gonta Gokuhara is the Ultimate Entomologist or SHSL Bug Scientist. He's one of the 16 students trapped in Monokuma's prison school called "Gifted Inmates Academy". This would imply that Gonta and others have irritated Monokuma in some sense to put them in a prison school (i.e. Many acts of HOPE), since they need to be punished. Perhaps in Gonta's case, he would be protecting the environment and setting up conservations for various species of insects.

Character Design + Implications of Personality

Personally I can see Gonta's design being a hybrid of Sakura Ogami's massive body build and Byakuya Togami's general smart and tidy attire. Judging by this combination, we can easily say that Gonta has the kind and caring nature transfered from Sakura as well as potentially the stuck-upness of Byakuya (but more than likely just being generally smart and successful). Additionally, we may be able to suggest how Gonta's character may play the killing game. Either Gonta will commit suicide through some traumatic experience bestowed from others, or will be part of the surviving (assuming this game plays out like the first, which is probably wrong xD). Finally I was researching meanings for the name of Gonta and these were the results:

This search strengthens my theory of how Gonta's character may play out in this killing game, however the name may slightly change because of localisation and other developer choices before the game is finally released.

If He Becomes a Victim

Having such a large build, it seems very unlikely that physical force is going to be the least likely method of how he is killed. Which presents a few other options. The first being suicide, which applies to any of the characters. We have to always consider this because of how it has happened in the previous games as well as the general nature of any mutual killing game driving anyone insane to the point of having these dark feelings. The other possible method of being killed is through either magic or a certain invention. This means that the two likely suspects of his sudden death would be Himiko Yumeno (Ultimate Magician who could cast some horrid and hidden spell for death or poisoning) or Usagi Iruma (Ultimate Inventor who could create some machine to nullify Gonta's massive build).

If He Becomes The Blackened

Being the SHSL Entomologist, his most likely method of attack will be by releasing some swarm of bugs over his chosen victim. He would then collect them back and potentially leave no trace of any bugs around the crime scene. Additionally his huge body could crush most of the characters in this horde. However it is very difficult to see why he would have a motive to kill anyone. From the sprites we've seen so far, he seems to be a gentle soul. The only motive would be from a display of abuse to insects triggering him to set off and teach the culprit a lesson.

Final Words

Obviously all of my theories could be easily dismantled when the game finally releases. In the end, it's always interesting to see how close your theories are in comparison to the game. I do hope Spike Chunsoft create the best Danganronpa game in the series as well as create the most loveable characters.
