Hey there friends! Editor Karma here with another post. As someone who loves dog and has owned two very different dogs, I know that they can really affect mental health. But today I want to go into the scientific reasons that dogs make us so happy. So, without adieu, let's start.

Before getting into why your pup, or any pup for that matter, makes you so happy, we need to figure out was happiness actually is.
Happiness is made with Dopamine. A hormone in the brain that releases when we see something/someone we like, do something fun, or get an A on the test we stayed up all night studying for.
Dopamine doesn't produce happiness all alone though. It works along side Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins. Together, they make happiness.

So, now that we know what happiness is and how it's made, let's get into the real question. Why does a ball of fluff and love make us so happy?
Oxytocin, nicknamed the "Cuddle Hormone" or "Love Hormone", plays a big role in this. When our dogs cuddle us, lay with us, or just sit with us, Oxytocin is released from the brain.
Oxytocin increases relaxation, trust and empathy, while reducing stress and anxiety.
Science says that gazing into the eyes of your dogs creates a big spike of oxytocin in both the human and doggo.

I actually kinda fear dogs. Big dogs. Labs, and dogs like that. They tend to jump on me. I was at a friends house once, and her two dogs kept trying to bite and scratch me. I was even cornered by the two. They barked really loudly and aggressively at me. That caused a panic attack. Luckily my friend got them away, though.
I used to have a German Shepard that I raised from a puppy and seriously this dog saved me from suicide. She was my best friend and it broke my heart when she died :(
I have an Australian Shepard, his name is Remi
I love my kitty, he’s my calming animal! I like doggos to :3
Yes the doggos.
