Fun Facts about Bettas

1.) In the wild, bettas are shades of browns, greens, and yellows, and their fins are shorter. The brightly colored bettas that we have as pets today, are a result of selective breeding.

2.) The most expensive betta fish was $1500 USD! It was sold in an auction on Facebook. The betta fish has the color of Thailand’s flag.

3.) A rose tail betta is just a half moon betta with more branching, it has the same characteristics as a half moon, such as the caudal fin overlapping the dorsal fin 180° spread of the caudal fin, just more extreme.

4.) There are over 60 known betta splenden morphs!

5.) Some types of bettas, such as Akars, can grow up to 5 inches in length, but most will not reach over 3 inches.

Q: Can bettas survive a week without food?

A: Yes, but I do recommend giving a little extra food before you go. :blush:

Q: Is diamond eye dangerous?

A: Not really, it’s your betta’s scale(s) covers his/her eyes, it’s kinda like having a blind fish. It normally effects dragon scale bettas.

Q: Is it necessary to cycle the tank?

A: Yes, unless you have water already cycled elsewhere.

Q: Is it necessary to have a heater?

A: Yes, but if your house or your room is warm then it’s not really needed (I guess only in the winter)

Q: What is the minimum tank size?

A: The minimum is 2.5 gallons, they can get upset in an aquarium less than 2.5 gallons, but don’t feel bad if you have it in a small tank! (I’ve done it too! For a year! I feel bad already thinking about it)

Q: How do bettas get food in wildlife?

A: They jump to catch bugs like spiders, and other insects.
