Pre-lesson 1-a.

________

Alphabet

_________

Hello!

안녕하세요!

In this lesson we are going to learn all of the letters in the Korean Alphabet, How to Read Hangul, and how to pronouce them correctly.

Sadly if you missed my call from last night you aren't in my chatroom last night and missed my call then I can't sound them.out to you in real time, but I will give you English alterative to help with pronunciation.

For more help please refer to this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/s5aobqyEaMQ

In Korean sounds/syllables need at least one consonants and one vowel. Try not to rely on romanization and memorize the sounds each letter makes

[C]안녕하세요!

____________

Now let's First go over the vowels!

____________

ㅏ[Ah]

ㅗ[Oh]

ㅓ[Uh] like in "ⓤp"

ㅜ[Oo] like in "glⓤe"

ㅡ[Uh] like in "gⓞⓞd"

ㅣ[Ee] like in " trⓔⓔ"

ㅔ[Eh] like in"ⓔgg"

ㅐ[Eh] like ⓔⓗ

ㅑ[Ya] like  in "ⓨawn "

ㅛ[Yo] like ⓨⓞ

ㅕ[Yuh] like in "sⓐⓦ"

ㅠ[Yoo] like "ⓨⓞⓤ"

ㅖ[Yeh] like "ⓨⓔⓗ"

ㅒ[Yeh] like ㅖ

Okay! Now that we know all the vowels we can explain why some of them sound the same.

ㅔ,ㅐ

&

ㅖ,ㅒ

Even though they sound the same when pronounced out loud they DON'T mean the same thing and are NOT interchangeable.

_________

Now for the consonants !

(To explain the pronunciation better I will be adding the vowel ㅏ)

___________

가= Like "K" & "G" =kah

나= Like "N "=nah

다= Like "T" &"D"=dah

마= Like "M"=mah

바=Like "P"&"B=bah

사= Like "S"= sah

자= Like "J"&"Ch"= jah

하= Like "H"= ha

라= Like "L"&"R"= lah

ㅇ= Like"NG" or silent letter. = Ah

For consonants like ㄱ,ㄷ,ㅈ, ㅂ, and ㄹ

There is no direct sound translation in English so rather instead of a hard  for example K or G, you should instead blend the to letters together until you get a sound in the middle of both.

_____

Double consonants

(To explain the pronunciation better I will be adding the vowel ㅏ)

_____

싸= Like "ssah"

까= Like "kkah"

따= Like "ddah"

짜= Like "jjah"

빠= Like "bbah"

Double consonants like these are pronounced like their single consonants counterparts, but when saying them out loud they are more Curt and cut-off sounding. When saying them it's like you don't want air to come out of your mouth

____

Lined consonants

(To explain the pronunciation better I will be adding the vowel ㅏ)

____

카= Like "kah"

타= Like "tah"

차= Like "chah"

파= Like "pah"

Lined consonants like this make the a harder more defined sound then the single consonants.

__________

Other rules

_______

Now to go over more rules for the alphabet when reading Hangul.

When the consonant ㅅ or ㅆ

Is combined with ㅛ, ㅗ, ㅑ, ㅕ, or ㅣ

They make more of a [Sh]sound then just the [s].

쇼[Shyo]

쑈[Sshyo]

소[Shoo]

쏘[Sshoo]

샤[Shya]

쌰[Ssya]

셔[Shyah]

쎠[Shyah]

시[Shee]

씨[Sshee]

----

The ㅇ  makes a [Ng] sound when put at the end of a syllable blocks

Ex. 안녕 [An- neyeoⓝⓖ]

But when out at the start of a syllable block it is silent. When you are reading this it is encourage to replace the last consonant of the last word.

Ex. 밌입니다 [mi-ss- ib-ni-da]

밋십니다 [mis- shib-ni-da]
