The rain echoed a slow patter as it began to splash against the window in the dimly lit room Minami stood in. For several minutes he had stared unseeing at a wall that was littered with pictures, newspaper clippings, online articles, and more. The crimes had all been so similar, but up until this evening no one had been murdered. At least to their knowledge. They had yet to find any of the kidnapped victims. Tonight had been different from the others; not only had someone been murdered, they were left at the scene where a new victim had been kidnapped. Had this been a bold move decided by the perpetrator, or maybe, just maybe it was extreme unfortunate luck on the behalf of the latest victim taken.

Minami startled slightly as footsteps dispersed the rain’s echoes in the room around Minami and it pulled him from his thoughts. He turned and peered over at Detective Seung-gil as he entered the room. Minami shook his head as he looked forward once more. He had never had any real problems with Sueng-gil, but during this particular evening he had no patience to interact with anyone. Minami’s shoulders tensed slightly as the detective came to a stop next to him.

“Any new information?” Minami asked quietly as he refocused on the images from the first crime scene.

“None.” Sueng-gil responded in a quipped voice. “Does staring blankly at this wall give you any answers?”

Minami stifled a sigh as he stepped closer to the images. He knew that the detective meant no harm, but he was in no mood to deal with his lack of social skills. Not when… he would not allow his mind to finish that thought. His eyes moved steadily over the images of the victims: Sara Crispino, Christophe Giacometti, Viktor Nikiforov, Phichit Chulanont, and now... Yuuri Katsuki. Having to place Yuuri’s name on that list enraged Minami, but he had to accept the facts as they were. All the crime scenes prior to this have been very similar. That similarity is how they had easily linked that all of the victims were taken by the same person, but this one had been different. This time a body was left behind. The body of Phichit Chulanont, yet Yuuri had been taken. “Why would they take the detective? Would it have not made more sense to kill him?” Minami thought as he looked at the images once more. The bags of groceries that Yuuri had been carrying laid strewn on the ground, the contents spilled. Signs of a struggle were evident, but it appeared they had easily overtaken him. How could they have done it so easily?

As Minami began to work through the facts in his mind he heard Detective Lee’s phone chime. He turned to face the korean, who had remained silent as Minami was lost in his thoughts. He watched him carefully look at the phone before the detective’s dark eyes looked up to meet his own. “It appears we have some of the toxicology results back. Though the autopsy is still ongoing, it may be safe to say we are aware what the cause of death may be.”

Minami took the phone the detective held out to him and reviewed the results. For a moment he felt as though he had more questions than answers. Scanning through the results,his blood was clean of any illicit drugs, but there was one drug that showed positive on the report: Zolpidem. Commonly used to drug unsuspecting targets in a bar or club. Minami stared at this result on the screening for a moment as he quickly became aware the amount that appeared in Phichit’s blood was a lethal amount. Detective Lee’s deduction could be correct, but if this was not the cause of death Minami felt sure it contributed. The question now was how did that much get into Phichit’s system without people around him realizing something was wrong? He also still had to question how Yuuri would have been subdued.

It was that thought that sparked a memory in his mind. Looking up from the phone he quickly Minami moved over to the wall, looking closely at the new pictures from that night’s crime scene that had been added. He scanned the images carefully until he found the specific image he needed. Pulling it from the wall, Minami looked carefully at the image. If his theory was correct he may find what he needed in that image. As he studied it closely he felt the detective move up to his side.

“What is so interesting about that picture?” Detective Lee asked.

“Possibly the answer to how the victims have been subdued by the kidnapper.” Minami responded off hand. His eyes found the object he had been looking for.

“Both you and Yuuri had always been so certain it was only one kidnapper, but it still makes no sense how one person has been able to take each of these people without drawing attention to the scene of abduction.” Detective Lee grumbled with a huff at Minami.

“We stand by one kidnapper because there was no evidence to there was a second person involved.” Minami exasperatedly replied to him as he pulled a picture from Viktor’s crime scene off the wall. “For your department’s theory of there being at least two we would see more evidence to point in that direction. As we have shown you, there just is not.”

“Then how was this perp able to take these people, and in this last scene, kill Mr. Chulanont and kidnap Yuuri without him escaping?”

“The answers are here at the scenes.” Minami snapped at him as he pulled another picture from the wall. This time from Christophe’s crime scene.

“And what would that be? Or do you plan to keep it a secret like your counterpart.” Detective Lee snapped back, the aggravation rising in his voice.

Minami removed one final image from the wall before turning to face the detective once more. Emotions began to swirl in Minami as he found the confirmation he needed in the images, but it also syphoned a sense of dread. This confirmation also made Minami realize the outcome to this may not be a happy ending. “If my theory is correct, I know how the victims have been subdued, and who has been committing the abductions.” Minami stated as he laid the images out on a table for Detective Lee to see.

Yuuri didn't have to see to know the storm had picked up. It was midway through autumn and a storm this strong made the rain nearly as cold as ice against the skin. How had he not seen this? It was so obvious now… it had been them all along.

Four things were certain. His knife was no longer on his person. He had been drugged, the slight vertigo and headache were proof enough, he had been blindfolded, and he was tied up. The memories were hazy, but he had seen everything, Mr. Chulanont was gone. He tugged at the ropes on his hands and feet, the soggy rope only tightening with each pull, curved wall at his back, and the sound of water tapping metal as it moved like a raging river. He was sitting waist deep in water. A storm drain? It was the only thing that made sense. They were a fair distance from the city then.

"Why don't you show yourself?" He called out only to be silenced by the sound of thunder. The rain only pelted harder, sounding more like stones on steel than water.

His mind raced as he considered all the possibilities. Either he had to come to macgyver a way out of this somehow, or he would have to rely on Minami to find them. The man was clever, he ed the photographs from the case on the day they'd met. Quadruple homicide in an eighth floor apartment. Minami had known, when everyone else had gone astray, the younger man had known. Yuuri would have to believe Minami knew who had done this and where they were. He took a deep breath and let his mind focus on what he could take in.
