Minami and Guang Hong got together after the live show, about a month ago, when they walked home together while JJ and Yurio headed back to the old music room in the basement of their school.
Yurio and JJ on the other hand, even though their feelings were mutual, neither wanted to make the first move. Worried to rush into anything and ruin what they had going on, they just let time and fate sort everything out. But as fate may have it, someone might come to ruin what they have been slowly nourishing.
“Okay everyone! Our 3 weeks of work will not have been a waste of time! Just like the live show, this music festival is no different!” After the incident 3 weeks ago with the drama between Yurio and JJ, JJ has been trying to take his role as band leader more seriously, “I have a program sheet, so you guys can see when we’ll be up if you forget. Unlike last time we’re gonna be singing 7 songs, which means we’re gonna have to take it easy until the show.” “Not bad Daddy J, taking the proper lead for once.” “Thanks Guang Hong. To be honest I don’t think I’m doing too badly.” “You’re fine.” Yurio sayd. “Like you’re totally unbiased.” Minami smirked. “What?
Of course I am!” Turning his head to pout, Yurio refused to look at Minami and Guang Hong as they giggled. JJ just stood there and smiled.
Carrying their gear, the band headed backstage to and find their band’s designated table where they could keep all their belongings. “I’ll , you guys go find our table for us to get sorted.” “Yes Captain!” Guang Hong posed as a soldier to JJ until Yurio grabbed his arm and dragged him off, following Minami.
As it was lunch time, when JJ reed the group, the boys had set everything up ready to eat when JJ got back. “Thanks for waiting!” “Sure.” Minami replied. With 5 hours to go until their performance, they decided to take their time eating and then walk around backstage and talk to the other bands. Naturally it was their first time at a music festival since the band had been formed, so they wanted to get as much information as possible as to how everything worked and learn new techniques to calm down in front of such a big crowd.
Everyone had split up to talk to people or just have a look around at the stands outside. Yurio, just minding his own business, not thinking too hard about what was going on around him, bumped into a woman rushing past him. She turned around, bowed, sayd she was sorry and ran off, without letting Yurio say sorry too. Not wasting much time thinking about why she was in a hurry, he just kept walking. “Hey Yuri!” Yurio heard a voice behind him. Guang Hong was walking towards him with food in his arms. “What you got there?” “I don’t know, but it sure is delicious.” Guang Hong sayd. “It’s sweet but salty and it’s really chewy. Here! Try some!” Being shoved this weird food in his face, Yurio took a bite, “Mm. Sure is tasty.” “I know right?” They kept walking past all the stands, now and then having a look at what they were selling. “So tell me.” Guang Hong started, “How have things been between you and Daddy J?” “Uh... well... same as usual I guess? We haven’t really changed the way we talk to each other but the feeling I get is that we feel a little more relaxed knowing we feel the same way. What about you and Minami?” “Yeah, everything’s great.” Guang Hong smiled, “I’m really happy.” “I’m glad.” Yurio smiled looking ahead into the crowd.
In that moment, he coincidentally saw JJ standing at one of the T-shirt stands looking at all of them, not knowing which one to buy. “Look, it’s Daddy J.” Yurio sayd to Guang Hong. “Cool! Hey Dad—“ “JJ!!” A female voice shouted from behind them. The woman rushed past Yurio and Guang Hong, bumping into them, while heading towards JJ. Just as soon as JJ looked up, she flung herself at him with tears in her eyes. Really surprised, he didn’t know what to say except, “Isabella?” “Oh my god JJ! Where have you been this whole time? I’ve been calling and texting you for the last 3 weeks and you’ve never replied? I thought something serious may have happened to you!”
“I’ve been busy.” “No you haven’t! Even when you had a lot going on at school, you still took the time to see me.” Isabella, JJ’s ex-fiancée, leaned in to kiss him.
From the corner of his eye, JJ saw Yurio and Guang Hong looking at them, Yurio being the most shocked. Only after seeing Yurio’s look, did he put his hand over Isabella’s mouth and say, “Please stop. We broke up for a reason.” “That never stopped you from seeing me before.” “Yes, well, things are different now.” JJ looked away, because he didn’t know what else to say to her. Isabella leaned away from him, realizing there was someone else he had fallen for. “Who? What’s her name?” “It doesn’t matter!” “It does matter! I couldn’t stop meeting you, because I still love you, and I’m sure it was the same for you JJ. Our love runs deep and you can’t run away from that.”
“Hey now!” Guang Hong butted in as he and Yurio walked up to the other two. “He’s got someone new now. I mean you haven’t been dating for ages so what’s the problem? He’s got nothing to do with you, why make such a fuss?” “He’s mine!” Isabella tightened her grip around JJ’s neck. “He’s right. Besides we need to go, we start in 2 hours.” JJ removed Isabella’s arms from his shoulders and took a step back. “You’re in a Band? Hah! You’ve got to be joking! No way.” Isabella couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Yurio walked up to JJ and grabbed his hand, “Yes way, and we’re leaving.”
When Guang Hong, Yurio and JJ arrived at their table backstage, Minami was already sitting there waiting for them. “Where have you guys been?” “Sorry, we got caught up.” Guang Hong told Minami so he wouldn’t worry. Yurio let go of JJ’s hand and didn’t look at him. He just walked off not saying a word to the others. “Hey! Where are you going? You just got back!” Minami hadn’t got a clue what was going on with everyone. “Toilet.” Yurio sayd without looking back.” “I’ll go talk to him and see what’s up.” Guang Hong then left to find Yurio.
JJ sat down at the table and didn’t say anything. “What’s wrong with you?” “It’s... Isabella. I stopped seeing her because of Yuri, because I thought that I really genuinely felt something... but seeing her now, I don’t know what to feel.” JJ sat there with his eyes closed totally lost. “Let’s wait until after the festival to deal with all this. Okay?” Minami couldn’t think of a way to distract JJ or get his mind off the situation. “Yeah.”
When Guang Hong finally caught up to Yurio, he was in the bathroom splashing water on his face. “If he hadn’t seen me from the corner of his eye, I’m sure he would have done it.” “Kiss her you mean?” Guang Hong leant up against the sink next to the one Yurio was using. “Yes. I saw the look on his face. It was so clear.” “I’m sure Minami is telling Daddy J exactly the same thing I’m about to tell you.” “And what’s that?” “Let’s wait until after the festival to deal with all this. Okay?” “Sure.” Yurio didn’t know what else to say.
In the last hour before their performance, Guang Hong and Minami were doing their best to distract JJ and Yurio from the situation, by playing cards and talking about the most random things.
It was time. The crew member who always called out the bands to let them know that they were up next called out to Guang Hong, Yurio, Minami and JJ, “Okay, Thei-Band. You’re up in 4 minutes.” There was a short silence, then Yurio turned to JJ, Thei-Band? WHAT THE HELL KIND OF NAME IS THAT??” “What? I couldn’t just say our band ’ names at registration, so I had to think of a name on the spot. Calling ourselves ‘They Band’ or ‘Us’ or whatever would have been stupid.” “And ‘Thei-Band’ isn’t? My god, how stupid.” Yurio face palmed himself until Minami put his hand on Yurio’s shoulder, “Calm down. Let’s just go out there and make our practice count!”
JJ, Yurio and Minami headed out onto the stage. Guang Hong couldn’t make it to the top of the steps. His stage fright had gotten better since the live show but having thousands of people staring at him just tipped him over the edge, “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!! What the hell?? No one sayd the pressure was gonna be this bad. I can’t. I just can’t. This is too—“ SLAP! Guang Hong instantly shut up and stared at Minami, who was standing in front of him and who’d just slapped him across the face. JJ and Yurio were too busy getting ready to deal with Guang Hong, so they let Minami take care of it.
“You just...” Guang Hong just stood there. “This is a technique I learned from a band I was talking to when we arrived this afternoon. First you slap your band member across the face and then you...” Minami leant in to kiss Guang Hong. He then grabbed his hand and pulled him out onto the stage, where JJ and Yurio were waiting. “How hard did you slap him? His face is bright red.” Yurio asked Minami as he took his place on stage. “I don’t think he’s red because I slapped him.” Minami smirked and then looked ahead, happy he managed to pull off what he’d just done without freaking out himself.
The 7 songs the band had chosen were divided up into 2 parts. The first 3 songs the band were going to sing were about how they formed and their journey together. The other 4 songs were about each other. Each member chose a song they wanted the band to perform on stage, which represented the way they felt about the band, about each other or about a special person they wanted to sing for.
The first 3 songs were sang without mistakes, as they had been practiced thorough. The fourth and fifth songs were a little lacking in sound as the bassist and guitarist were too nervous to play confidently, seeing as these songs were about Minami and Guang Hong playing to each other. The sixth song was from JJ to Yurio, how they met, why JJ ed the band and how they were leaving their relationship up to fate. This song however wasn’t sung the way it was supposed to be. JJ didn’t smile, he didn’t look happy and he didn’t look like he was enjoying singing the words he had carefully selected for Yurio. No one knew what was going on with him, not his band and not the crowd.
When Minami followed JJ’s line of sight, he could see Isabella in the crowd, just like JJ. Only 2 more verses and 1 more chorus to go, Minami looked at Guang Hong and then looked at Yurio. The 3 of them nodded and then jumped in and changed the music and the words. JJ snapped out of whatever he was thinking about and in total confusion just tried to lip sync, until he caught on to what they were singing. Even though the middle was just a disaster, they managed to finish the last chorus and verse without problems. Yurio’s song to JJ was a success as Minami and Guang Hong were trying their best to make it sound more more heartwarming and sincere.
After bowing and leaving the stage, JJ was completely distracted. After getting back to their designated table, where they had put all their stuff, Yurio put his drumsticks into his bag, turned around and slapped JJ across the face, more forcefully than Minami had done to Guang Hong. “Just make up your god damn mind already!” Yurio shouted at JJ. He then ran off, as fast and as far away as he could.
After about half an hour of being away and hiding in some corner at the outer fence of the festival grounds, JJ managed to find Yurio. “I’ve finally found you, Yuri!” Yurio quickly looked up to see JJ standing there, really panting and sweating a little. Yurio turned his back to JJ and sayd, “What do you want? Just go away. I’m not in the mood to see you right now.” JJ grabbed Yurio’s hand, pulled him up off the floor and hugged him. Struggling to release himself from JJ’s grip, Yurio shouted “Let go of me, you piece of—“ “No! I won’t! Not until you hear what I have to say.” Yurio suddenly stopped struggling and just left his arms hanging.
“After you slapped me and I got a lecture from Minami and Guang Hong, I went to find Isabella.” “Why should I care?” “Because I told her that I’d found someone I truly want to cherish. I don’t know why and I don’t understand it, but I do.” “What nonsense are you trying to get me to believe this time?” JJ pushed Yurio a little away from him and stared him in the eyes, “Would
you—“ “No.” “You don’t even know what I was going to ask.” “You we’re going to ask me if I can forgive you.” “No I wasn’t!” JJ was getting somewhat of a déjà vu. “Then you were going to ask me if I want to go out with you.” “What would you say if I did ask you that?” “I guess I wouldn’t have a choice but to say yes, seeing as you ditched your ex-fiancée to come and fine me.”
JJ smiled, blushed a little and hugged Yurio again.
“I checked the score board and because of the BLEEP you pulled, we got in fourth.” Minami sayd suddenly appearing out of nowhere. “You should be ashamed of yourself!” Guang Hong sayd, feeling that he needed to add that. “Something is better than nothing right?” “Only a loser would say that.” Yurio, Minami and Guang Hong sayd in unison. “Can we go home now?” Minami asked, leaning against Guang Hong. “Yes, let’s. I’ve had enough for the day.” Yurio started walking back to their table that was back stage, to grab everyone’s stuff and head back to where everything started, their school’s old music room in the basement.
