Hi everyone, it's PSDOL, the leader of the Character Review Club and this is our first issue about a yoi character that we dont celebrate his birthday , yep dedicated to the secondary characters. This issue we be reviewing Yakov Feltsman Viktor's and Yurio's coach.

What's the CRC?

━━━━❰･❉･❱━━━━

The CRC stands for Character Review Club (formerly known as the Shipping/Character Club). It's a club where review characters and ships from different angles. The schedule follows the birthdays, so that there will be a fitting review published on each character's birthday.

The aim of this club is to appreciate all of the characters and ships in a way that most haven't thought of before. We go into detail about what we think and how we see the characters and ships. Furthermore we always try to find new aspects about the characters to keep it interesting.

Each issue will tackle the good and the bad sides of a character. We CRC love each and every character, but every personality has positive and negative aspects to them. We're here to explore the characters in depth without judging them and respecting every possible ship we come across.

Here is what PSDOL thinks is good about Yakov

Hi,PSDOL here. I’ll be reviewing Yakov’s positive characteristics .

So what can we say of grumpy Yakov? 🤔 Well, what I can think of is Yakov being very caring character Especially to Yurio. I see Yakov being a father figure towards Yurio by how he treats Yurio and all his skaters. Yakov is a ive coach and loves ice skating with his whole heart, he even forgives Viktor for leaving Russia due to his impulse to change enviroment. We can see that Yakov is a very helpful person, Because he coached a skater that was not his student, due to Viktor leaving him. From what we see, Yakov loves his loved ones. Even though him and Lillia split, you can still see he loves his ex wife. On the other hand, I wish we get to know more about him. I hope that in the movie, we get to see more about Yakov, because he’s one of my favourite coaches in Yuri On Ice ,and I am curious to see how handled young Viktor.

Those were his positive traits but we all know that nobody's perfect :pensive: Here is what Xi thinks about him.

Tang here, to review Yakov’s negatives.

First of all, when Yurio did a Quadruple instead of a triple during his junior seasons? Yakov didn’t comment anything good about it, but yelled at Yurio saying that the program didn’t include a quadruple, although the judges were shocked. He also discouraged Viktor when he went to become Yuuri’s coach. Yakov also doesn’t let small mistakes in the program get away. Yakov also said some discouraging things to Yuuri after Yuuri’s performance in Episode 8, without Viktor, but Yuuri was just glad that Yakov was there. Yakov may be a great coach, but he could try a few nicer methods, and not insisting that the program has to be PERFECT. Not everything is perfect after all, yes?

In this issue we also wanted to take a closer look at Yakov's relationships, one that is more on the popular side and one that is more on the unusual side.

So what do I, Xi , think is one of Yakov's most popular relationships?

Yakov & Yurio

So Yakov’s relationship with Yurio is a strange, but somewhat healthy relationship. Yakov is like a father to Yurio, and we barely get to see any sign of Yurio’s family (other than his grandpa, of course). So we can say, Yurio’s second family are the Russian Skaters, Yakov and Lillia. Yakov helped Yurio achieve Yurio’s goal, by bringing in Lillia, and giving Yurio lots of free time to practice. He’s a bit harsh on the 15 year old, but gave him all that he needed to win. Yakov was also genuinely concerned about Yurio putting himself through 6 jumps in the second half (which is very risky) and advised Yurio to not do 6 jumps in the last half (but Yurio didn’t listen, since he wanted to win before he turned 16). Yakov was also pretty proud of Yurio after his Last Agape performance, (and Lillia was crying) which shows that there’s more to Yakov than we think. Maybe it’ll be shown in the movie?

Yakov & Viktor

Unusal pairing for Yakov would be with Viktor.

When it comes to what type of relationship Yakov has with Viktor it would be a fatherly figure or coach.

Let’s start with fatherly figure. We know that a coach sometimes act like fathers to the skaters, and I see Yakov acting with Viktor in that way. He cares for him and even forgives him for his stupid thinking and the things he does, like going to Japan. Even as a coach he gets worried for Viktor, shouts at him, gives him tips and is very patient with him. I find Yakov a perfect coach for Viktor because he knows him by heart and even knows every move he does. Also, he sometimes does things for him, for an example; coaching Yuuri. Yep, Viktor can feel very lucky to have a caring, strict coach like Yakov. Afterall, it’s thanks to Yakov that he’s where he’s at right now,and Viktor knows it. That’s why he trusted Yakov with coaching yuuri while Viktor was gone.
