Where there is light there is a darkness that follows
I found myself in an unfamiliar room. The walls were a basic grey and there was a small chair placed right by the bed that I lay in. The sheets were a calming blue. The room itself gave off a calming vibe. I looked down to find a strange box in the center of the bedroom. I slowly crept out of bed and examined the toy.
It was filled with three holes of similar shapes. Behind the box lay multiple blocks. I grabbed one with three pointed ends and began to press it to the box. The piece didn't fit and there was a loud buzz that followed. I touched my ear in pain as the buzzing hurt my eardrums.
I then placed it into a different hole and the buzzing stopped. I sighed in relief and began to place more shapes in. There was another almost identical pointy shape but the sides looked more equal. Two slots looked as if they could fit. I tried the one to the left, and the buzzing came back.
I felt tears push at my eyes as the loud buzz continued to ring. "Shut up shut up shut up SHUT UP!" I threw the box and the pieces at the wall. It shattered. I hadn't realized the box was so fragile. I sighed in relief though for the buzzing had stopped.
"Miss. Everleigh?"
I looked to where the entrance of the room was to find a tall man peering down at me from the door. He looked into my eyes and then to the shattered box, tsking his tongue.
"Now look what you have done. This is not good behavior."
He walked up to the box and began sweeping the pieces into a small bag. I watched as a piece nicked his finger and red began to pour from it. What was the red liquid?
"Miss. Everleigh, why did you break the box?"
He was now crouching in front of me with the bag placed to his side. I looked from the bag to his eyes and shrugged.
"Painful," I spoke.
He nodded and pulled a book from out of his trench coat and jotted something down.
"I'm so sorry Miss. Everleigh. I'll make sure you never play with that toy again."
To my surprise, I shook my head and grabbed his arm.
"Like. I like the toy. I don't like the buzzing."
He gave me a side glance then stood up abruptly.
"I can't fix that, but let's fix that mood. Here, Miss. Everleigh, please take your medicine. Don't bite, just swallow."
I was handed a strange pink pill. I turned it around in my hand and held the strange thing up to my eye. I was to swallow it? It was edible? I looked back at the man who only stared at me as I did so. He seemed like a good person, so I did as told.
