The Mistake of Gods

┗━━━━━━━━━━┛

”It’s not like my life was ever mine.” I spit out to the dirt. To the dust that surrounds me, that fills my lungs with that unwanted feeling.

”No. It was not.” The oracle whispers, seated in front of me. His eyes glazed over, his tonic ripped and falling off his slender shoulders. ”It was destined by the Gods that you would bring ruin.”

I take in a deep breath, frustrated and disappointed in myself. Of course, it would.....

”I’m not surprised.” I sigh out. Painfully ing my mother's last words.

Of the look in my father’s eyes as he left me.

He said I was cursed, he even warned my sister to leave me where I was.

She should have listened. If she had she probably still would be alive, not left lying in a cave under all that rubble.

And yet, here I stand. Waiting to face my fate...... Yet. I don’t want to.

I'm sick and tired of having to follow someone else’s plan, never having a say in it. Never having a choice.

”I wonder....” I start, looking towards the oracle. My hand clenching, as the wind starts to blow stronger. ”Is it possible for me to rewrite the stars?” My voice barely a whisper.

I feel like I'm committing a crime in asking, questioning the Gods plans.

”It is, but I have only seen one before you ever do so.” The oracle grimly comments. His milky white eyes staring fiercely at me.

”How.” I softly demand. Stepping forward, my hands twisting together. Causing the wind to wildly change direction. ”Tell me!” I beg.

He only chuckles, his chest shaking violently. His breathing becoming shaky until he starts coughing.

Dark deep blue blood dribbles out of his mouth.

”My time in this realm is whining. I am not long in this world.” He wheezes. ”But I must it that you remind me much of the first one.”

I take in a sharp breath, my lungs holding it as I wait for him to continue.

The blood starting to dribble out of his nose now. He doesn't wipe it away, almost as if he cannot feel it.

”They came to me, wanting to erase that which they called their power. A curse sent by the Gods to them.” He manages to get out, his shoulders slumping forward. ”They erased their powers, only after using them against themselves.” He heaves out, a whispy laugh escaping their lips.

”How?” I breathe out, stepping forward again. Unable to stop myself I kneel before him.

”He refused the gift the Gods gave him. He refused to see the future, the past or the present. For he found them all to be lies of better or worse things to come. In doing so he erased his destiny.”

I suck in a breath. Realizing what he means. I cup my hands over my mouth, tears streaming down my cheeks as my emotions run forth.

”I’ve caused much pain in doing so.... People who were meant to be born never were. And those I was meant to stop continued on.” He confesses, his hand grasping my shoulder. His head leans onto mine.

”Never defy your destiny.” He warns his breath a shaky husk.

His body suddenly goes limp, and his hand cold.

I sit perfectly still, my lungs going still as I release what I never wanted to.

It all comes bursting out, my body slams backwards. My head cracks against the back of a nearby tree, my hands shaking as I try to grasp that thread I’ve never been able to.

I reach it as it burns the palms of my hands. My lungs spasming, as I wrap around it. I pull it taunt, my head pounding as I try to keep my hold on consciousness.

I pull my hands apart, the threat cutting into my skin. I scream and scream, yet no sound comes out.

Until finally, the thread snaps. My hands being thrown violently backwards, my body pushed back into the tree. My eyes watering as I fall over.

I lie there, un-seeing until on the wind I hear a voice.

”Little curse, what have you done? Listening to our past mistake, don’t you know? That in rejecting us, you have cursed yourself further?”

I chuckle at the Gods message. My laughter growing until I think my mind might shatter.

And yet no noise comes out.

Fin.

Sooooo..... This week in the fantasy club we had to write a story around a being that wanted to erase something. I don’t know if I followed through with that clearly enough but I hoped you enjoyed!

Have a magically mysterious day/night!
