The calm womanly voice

"Hey.",

a womanly voice asked out of nowhere. "Do you mind?", speaking fast, she tried to calm her voice.

Came from a walk perhaps?

Without saying a word I nodded lightly. Just guessed that she would want to sit next to me on the old rotten bench.

The bench that was placed on one of the most irrelevant places in this town- at least in my opinion. Like who would want a bench in the middle of two fields, on a small really tight walkway that was usually just used by the landowners, farmers. Though it was a really lost place, I enjoyed sitting there for a long while sometimes.

Right behind the bench there was couple of older trees and a bunch of other side plants that the farmers where nice enough to leave behind when they must have cut off this walkway- and the field behind it.

Especially when it got late and one could see the sun vanish behind the small houses, far away on the horizon on the left side of the bench where I was sitting.

Not as socially awkward as usual? My inner me asked me as I had nodded to the womanly voice. I chuckled lightly and a smile appeared on my face.

Nah I'm good today, I thought to myself while the womanly voice sat down next to me on the bench, with enough distance to me to leave with enough safe space.

Without opening my eyes the entire time, I had realized that she was a person with a small body. It took her a lot of steps to get to the bench, yet it wasn't that far from where she was standing. I imagined since I could hear the sound of her feed stopping her rush in the dried sand and stone of the old walkway when she came closer to the bench.

Far away one could hear the silenced noise of the highway. Every now and then, when a bigger car cruesed by, one could see its lights through the trees and yea, well only at night when the darkness surrounded the the many meters of field too. It calmed me.

Rarely things did.

"Are you often here?",

the womanly voice asked silently.

Oh, now you have been put up to a challenge. My inner me told me. It's voice started to rise up.

"No, I'm just..", was the only thing that left my lips without them moving a lot at all.

Supposedly answering to both the voice in my head and the voice coming from next to me on the bench.

She was breathing heavily and I could tell that she was sweating too, from running. She must have had been running for a longer while now.

When was the last time I ran?

Ran from myself?

Every day.

No answer came from her side so I left it be, my eyes still closed.

A wind blew through the leafes in the trees behind us and with it came a cold breeze.

One could tell it was getting late.

Not only the sun was leaving this place, but it also started to get way colder than during the day at an early spring day like this was.

With my ears I concentrated on the many sounds on this small place around me.

The leafes, the wind, the cars on the highway, the darkness and- her breathing.

I lifted my head up a bit to get a bit more of the cold air to my nose and my face.

I had just settled myself to the situation and well, might have fallen asleep mind wise for a couple of moments, or perhaps minutes when the womanly voice next to me stood up.

Her hands slowly left the bench and pushed her body off lightly to stand up.

"Have a good evening. ",

she said, now in a more calm voice then before.

My inner sleep moment and peace cloud was interrupted and it surprised me for a bit to hear her voice again, probably just because I had woken up from my nap again.

My head also must have lowered itself again, oh gosh how much of a douchbag I must have looked like I thought to myself while I slowly reset my body.

Though I was too slow, my mind taking too up much time again and there she went.

Just like that she continued walking off slowly first, then gaining speed as she got further away from the rotten bench I was sitting on.

Just then I opened my eyes and looked after her by slightly turning my head to the left, where she was running, on the old walkway, towards the sinking sun.

"You too, thank you..",

I whispered back to her. My words being swallowed up by the darkness that was slowly starting to surround me again.

What a nice person, I thought to myself.

The nicest person i met in a while.

And there it was, silence-

my demons had left me, I was in seduced [...].

By the calm womanly voice.

Fúer ein kleines Máedchen.

Dass ich einmal kannte.

That was an amazing short story :two_hearts: I love how the woman particularly represented his feelings towards himself, but also the mysteries that surround the entire encounter. It was a fun short story to read, and I hope to see you around!
