Stuck in the future

Lexa was mad. Angrier than she’d ever been in her life. She’d just had this ridiculous fight with her mother. All she wanted to do was go to a school rather than being home schooled. She just wanted to have a normal life. But no, her mother just had to control each and every aspect of her life. She didn’t have any freedom in the house. She felt like a caged bird, desperate to spread her wings and soar to the sky once more.

She’d walked out the door in a hurry, trying to keep the stinging in her eyes from pouring downwards. She didn’t know where she was going, but she just had to escape from that house. That prison. She found her legs were taking her to the park. She found that they really wanted to sit on the bench next to the huge crater on the ground.

About a week ago, something had hit Lexa’s hometown and left a crater. It certainly wasn’t a meteorite, so no one knew how it got there. It just miraculously appeared one morning. It really didn’t look like a crater. It looked like a giant hole in the ground. So deep and dark that she really couldn’t see the end of it.

She sat there for a few minutes, mind reeling from the events that occurred in her house. Letting out a deep sigh, she laid back on the bench, eyes closed. Suddenly, a light shone so bright that she could see it under her lids. She quickly opened them to see that the hole was now glowing. It was lit up, pure white light coming up from the depths. She inched closer to get a better look,and gaped at what she saw. Where was all this coming from?

Suddenly,the ground beneath her foot gave way, and she stumbled into the hole! Down she went, screaming shrilly, eyes dazzled form the light. After what seemed ages,she finally landed. She was afraid to even open her eyes, but she had to. There wasn’t any light under her lids anymore, so she carefully opened her eyes to take in where she had landed.

As soon as she set eyes on her surroundings, she let out a gasp. Everything was the color of a fiery orange. Buildings were burnt to the ground, dust and rubble lay strewn everywhere, smoke rose out of many buildings, polluting the air. Worst of all, there was not one human being in sight. Lexa was scared. She didn’t know where she was, she didn’t know who to call for help, she didn’t know howto get back home.

She tried walking around for a bit, hoping she’d run into someone. She didn’t, but she did find something that intrigued her. A billboard, almost burnt, advertising a movie or music album being released. What was terrifying about this was the release date. It said it was being released on 11th July, 2090.

Her head started spinning. Her heart beat faster. Blood pumped up to her face, making her sweat. This had to be a joke, right? She ran around, trying to find other evidence. A poster, with another date 21st September, 2090. Another billboard, 30th April, 2090. All these dates had the same year. Then, did this really mean that…she was in the future? A shrill scream tore its way from her throat, as she realized what had just happened to her.
