So for four days (from Friday to today) I went to London. I came back today and my mam and dad are saying things that I thought was interesting to share, and we can all determine whether this is homophobic or not.

As I said, for four days I went to London. I was there because I live in Ireland and went to VidCon London. It was really fun and i met a lot of great people but I want to focus on one specific shop/stall thing runner. I dont know her name, but her hair was dyed rainbow (I was extremely envious of this) so we'll call her Rainbow, for convenience.

My little sister and dad were doing this street fighter thing and I was watching, because a boy had already beaten me when it was I was playing it. I spotted a Gay and a Transgender flag so I turned to my mam and said "Hey, can I check out a thing over there? I'll be quick." She replied, "Over where? I'll come too." I didnt see anything wrong with this. There were a lot of people there, and she didnt really want to lose sight of me. So I said, "Over here." And started walking over.

When at said stall, there were a bunch of badges laid out (I dont have the ones I bought on-hand, as I'm writing this in bed, I'll post them in the comments tomorrow which ones I bought). They were mostly LGBTQIA+ badges, but there were also some drawings Rainbow did herself, along with just general cute badges (like this cute one of a smiling earth that I was gonna buy, but decided not to). She was also selling posters of OCs she made that were LGBTQIA+, full sized LGBTQIA+ flags which were really popular, there was a large group of friends walking around wearing them and all I could think was how much I wanted to be like those motherfathers, smaller LGBTQIA+ flags on a stick that you could wave around, LGBTQIA+ coloured string necklaces and probably other general LGBTQIA+ stuff I cant .

I started randomly picking up badges while my mam was talking to my dad. I said to Rainbow, "These badges are really cool!" She laughed, saying, "Thanks, I hand pressed them myself. If there are any flags missing tell me and I'll get them in right away." I laughed and continued looking at them, while having a conversation with Rainbow.

I picked up the following badges:

1. A bi flag

2. An asexual flag

3. A lipstick lesbian flag with an actual little lipstick kiss, it was adorable

4. A badge with a cloud background and a rainbow heart saying "queer and cute"

5. A drawing on a badge of an OC she made with a large poofy rainbow coat

6. A super cute alien badge

My mam paid, I said bye and thanked Rainbow and we left. I told my dad about them, and he was neutral. I had really good mac and cheese and then went off to my second meet and greet of the day, TheOdd1sOut.

While walking there, I said to my mam, "My pins are really cool!" She replied, "Yeah that 'Queer and Cute' one? You cant wear that on your bag to school." "Mam, why not?" "Fox, you'll get into trouble!" This doesnt sound to bad, but it really hurt me. I've come out to my parents about my bisexuality literally three times, and they dismissed it as my being confused. They're right, I was confused. I'm actually asexual so meh. Ok back to the point. In my head, I shouted at her "Get into trouble for what?! Being who I am?! ing other people's rights to my who they are?!?!" But in real life I just really quietly turned away.

Later on, after VidCon, we were at a bar. I went to the bathroom I heard my mam whispering to my dad, "Queer and Cute" and I was like "They're talking about me." I sat down and acted like I hadnt heard anything. This was really small but I thought I'd add this in here, because more evidence.

These next events happened today. I have a really good friend, who's pretty religious but has always accepted me for who I am. Here, I'll call her Kitty because that's her main OCs name. Her parents are extremely religious. Like, I walked outta my house to her and she held up her new teddy and she told me her Aunt had given it to her before they went to mass with her Nan.

So we were talking about whatever, and I was like, "Hey, I gotta go bathroom. I'll be out in a minute." Inside, I thought, "Hey, I bet Kitty'd love to see my new pins!" So i went into the kitchen like "Mam, where are my badges?" She asked why. I explained i was gonna show then to Kitty. "Fox, that's not a good idea." My dad said. "What, why?" I asked, super confused. My parents looked at eachother for a moment, like "oh god what do we say now". My dad eventually came up with "Her parents are extremely religious and we dont want them knocking on our door like 'hey your daughter cant hang our with our daughter anymore'."

Ok.

This is bullcrap.

Kitty has been my closest friend for a year. I trust her with anything and everything. She knows my sexuality, she knows about my parents being dismissive, she fully.s me, even if her parents believe that God doesnt like the gays so they dont either. I've never had any homophobic interactions with her parents, because I know one false move and BAM never seeing Kitty again. They've always been super nice to me, and I plan to keep it that way.

So I fought with my parents for a while before my mam saying "Ok, I'll look for your badges, but you must tell Kitty to not tell her parents!" I just rolled my eyes and left.

When I was out the door I was almost crying. Kitty asked what was wrong. I told her everything that happened, and she burst out laughing. "Why the heck would I tell my

parents? It's not as if I'll be like 'hey mOoOOOOm! Fox has LGBTQIA+ badges! Now go to her house and murder her parents!'" That made me laugh and eventually we just started talking about normal Fox And Kitty stuff. Yes, I eventually got to show her the badges. She loves the Lipstick Lesbian one.

So all I really want to know is if my parents are homophobic or not. They've always said they're not, but always brushed me off when I thought I was bisexual (my sexuality has been very confusing), I did it in three different ways. Once all professionally, the second on National Coming Out Day when I was like "wait its coming out day? Sweet I'm bi." And lastly I jumped out of my closet like "IM BISEXUAAAAAAL" to see if that would grab their attention. Made them think I was even more confused. Hecking hell.

So is this homophobic? I'd love to hear all of your opinions, thank you for reading this far, God made me gay, see you another time

I agree with Jack and Dellie. Even If they couldn't understand your sexuality well, they aren't against you, they are worried people might hurt you. About what happened with your friend, their concern was her parents don't let you hang out anymore.

They might not understand you completely but it looks like they just want to protect you.

I agree with Jack. If you're going to a Catholic Secondary School, then you may at some point encounter the subtle teaching of ”Its Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” Homophobia is as subtle as it is blatant, ESPECIALLY in schools. Your parents may be trying to protect you from that.

Your parents could be just as confused about your sexuality as you once were. I back in the early 2000’s it was a massive deal when a gay or lesbian couple were portrayed on a TV show. Nowadays, it's expected to see at least one LGBT couple on TV or movies. Ireland is a progressive country, but we're slow enough to move with the times. Your parents may be the same. They love you, and in their own bizarre way, may be trying to you, even if it doesn't look ive from where you're standing.

It sounds like in there own, strange, and ironic way, they're just looking out for you.
