Chimes echoed in the balcony.

Laughs muffled inside wooden

walls while the breeze outside

ruffled up fields of wheat.

Golden glow cloaked every

view - glimmering hue made

it all beautiful. The birds

chirped away their life; nature's

cycle at its finest.

A memory. Was it now?

                           Crosses everywhere inside

the small home of 4. But it

                           seemed the count of bodies

had increased - a reunion of

sorts. It all had a vintage

                           look, purposely made such

                           way. Rapid fingers tap

                           away on a glowing screen,

                           avoiding a chatter which

                           bores him. Body rested on

                           the couch, back in touch

with the handle of it. Sitting

                           distant from the group

                           invading his home.

Another song had started,

chanting to superior power.

Constantly being told to

in - as the lead bass vocal.

But he refrained, placing his

interest on the sinful messages

shared with a girl from his same

church.

                            He had no involvement on

                            the following conversations.

                            On plans for future masses.

It all bore him. All he did

                            was to please his mother

                            with his presence; pretend

                            his ears caught the details

                            and nod to simulate a

                            concentrated look. But after

                            he received the message

                            he had wanted, the excited

teen took it as cue to leave

to his room - for a "light

                            rest."

Dismissed, the door unlock

to allow him in. A clean room

hiding away secrets not

suitable for worshipping eyes.

With a turn, a close and a lock;

he addressed himself toward

his bed, his hand inches away

from pressing call. Yet, something

stopped him. It wasn't supposed

to be there, and he wasn't

supposed to look. Once ocean

hues had turned to glance, it

was too late.

                          A shadow had vanished, only

so he could not see whatever

had lifted him up and thrown

                          him away. Shock had still

been much. By the time he

                          processed, his bleeding nose

                          had met against the door,

calling out to the outsiders -

                          his mother. He came to

                          believe this was punishment

                          for his hypocrisy, the

                          make-believe look of a halo

                          he lacked. The higher power

                          had reached him to teach

                          him a lesson.

But the truth was so far

from reality. Everyone

knew except him.

Desperation gave him the

strength to scream, hearing

how all the others were at

the other side, yet could not

open his freedom. His body

once again slammed against

the door with force; an

escaped cry, before he was

dragged around the room.

                               Frail skin now mistreated -

                               forming scars. Everything

                               happening at once. Blood

                               escaping, painting,

                               tainting.

"WAKE UP"

It screamed at him with

raspy voice as it held his

body in the air - this

shadowy thing. The words

confused him in the spiraling

fear he felt. Increasing his

tears. A rag doll he was,

under this thing's hands, his

room now a mess.

"WAKE UP"

                             Out of breath now, the

                             moment his body collapsed

                             on the floor. The tiles

                             stopping his lungs just

                             briefly. A concussion

                             followed after. No way out,

                             defendless.

"IT'S TIME"

He felt the view spiraling.

The thing screamed until

he became deaf. The growl

from the outside suddenly

felt as if it vibrated inside

of him. Squinted eyes

opened to see nothing there.

                                 A moment of pause, and

                                 then he lost control. His

                                 body tensed up against

his will, hip lifted in the

                                 air; toes curled, eyes

                                 white. This is the view

                                 the family had

                                 witnessed upon

                                 breaking the door. The

                                 growls and screams all

                                 emitting from him.

                                 Distorted body to

                                 unexplained angles.

Possession, they called it.

Awakening,

he corrected.

Thank you all for reading. It's short than what I'm used to writing, but I wanted to make it "short and sweet". Something to read on coffee break. The story might be chronologically inadequate, so be alert. Taking the week challenge, this story should have 7 parts. With parts just as short or perhaps extremely long as it progresses. I hope you all enjoyed it!

It might not be distinctively scary. It has a more unnerving approach. Nevertheless, it suits.
