So I have recently been planning/writing a Hetalia fanfic and I have come to an ime. I have been thinking of adding a song fic chapter to my Hetalia story but I don't know how to make a song fic that isn't cheesy.
Here's the scenario
I would like to do a chapter where Mars thinks about declaring independence from America, and ending their friendship as consequence. This came to because the American Government kept restricting and asserting unnecessary control over the projects taking place on Mars and denying the wants and even needs of the colony. It of course didn't start out like this, but it was becoming more and more apparent over time. As the Colony gets more frustrated with the conditions being dealt, Marsha (the personification of Mars) begins to become wary of Alfred (the personification of America). Alfred notices Marsha starting to backpedal away from him and as a result becomes more clingy and eventually imposing, which of course makes Marsha even more afraid. Marsha, as the embodiment of the colony, is very stressed out and feels all of the building anger and frustration and hopelessness that consumes the Colony as they scramble for a solution.
Then finally it happens, the Colony begins to draft a ultimatum to the American Government.
You can skip to the end of the speech if you want. The speech goes as follows:
“Expressed by Head Scientist and Commander Martha Quinn in representation of the Colonists.
To be received by the US Government, namely those in Congress, and those in charge of any and all projects and missions related to Project M-100 and other Mars related ventures.
Those of us on the M-100 mission and those of us who have achieved permeant residence in the M-100 colony ask you out of respect and rapport to heed the following and know that is a matter to be taken with severity.
As of of recently the once collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship between us, the Mars colonists, and you, the overseers on Earth, is becoming a hindrance for all progress on Mars. The unprecedented need to assert dominance over the Mars residents through thinly veiled threats and ultimatums is not only suffocating to the colonist, but is clearly unnecessary because of the restrictions and binding guidelines that already make abilities and powers of those in charge on Mars minut. In response we have decided to give you this warning.
We ask that some restrictions on how we operate be lifted or that we get the chance for fair negotiations. We also must demand that it be illegal to deprive the colonist of needs or necessities if they fail to meet the expectations or demands expressed by Earth overseers.
If this situation continues and we find that you have no intentions of ever changing this treatment, then we will have no choice then to cut all ties with those who do not comply to we ask. We will isolate ourselves from you. The All exports will cease. We are at the point of colonization in which we can sustain ourselves without your help, despite your measures to try and slow that event. Atmosbelt will be used as a force field to prevent any attacks you send our way. We do not plan to attack Earth for we know that it will take much more power and resources than we have. We hope to have the of others.
To all those who understand our plight, we ask that you stand by us in these troubling times. We are not asking you to fight our battle for us, but to fight alongside us. In the event that what we have asked has not been met and our consequence must be carried out, we ask that you us in anyway that you can.
Marsha at the same time is trying to figure out away to tell Alfred. While at Roderich's house (Roderich is the human personification of Austria) Marsha takes the opportunity to use his piano to express herself. She plays and sings the song “Turning tables” by Adele.

I feel like the song fits the situation perfectly, but I don't know how to make a song-fic not cringey. Any advise?

Saw Hetalia, got excited lol
First, a few notes on what not to do: don't insert chunks of lyrics directly into the fic (it breaks up the flow so much, esp for readers unfamiliar with the song), and don't have the characters sing the lyrics (because, like the other, it just breaks up the flow)

What you can do instead: get the feel of the song, and write to that. Leave the song as highly suggested listening to readers as they read the fic. Or, you CAN pepper in a few lines here and there in the story, but woven throughout the fic. Not sudden stanzas of lyrics, but perhaps a phrase here and there.
