Sandy's Perspective

Talzi shakes my shoulder and I groan, sleep sticking to every fiber of my body.

"I'll grab you from the cafe when I'm finished with work. Okay?" He asks me.

I crack my jaw with a furious yawn, putting my hand over his. His hands are freezing this morning, but I take hold of it anyways. "Yeah," I mumble a word of agreement, then pull his hand closer so I can kiss his knuckles. "I'll see ya later, handsome." I kiss again and let go.

Talzi giggles, taking his hand back, and then kisses my forehead. "Alright, you flirty bastard." And I hear him leave my bedroom.

Just as I turn over to go back to sleep, my alarm screams from my bed stand, and I'm forced to get up for work. I much preferred the days without having to go to work, but helping Talzi out makes this morning wake-up calls a little more bearable.

Talzi's timing that afternoon is no closer to perfect than I think he could have gotten. My boss just told me a minute or two ago that if I stay any longer I won't get paid for it. I don't entirely understand why she came to this conclusion, but when Talzi walks in I don't care about figuring it out anymore.

I put my apron and name tag aside, check out and go to meet him. "Ready to go?" He asks with a bright smile lighting up his human face.

"Where are we going?" I ask as he leads the way out of the cafe.

"Not too far," he points to the old-fashioned arcade just a few shops down.

"What... what did you decide, you know, for us?" I reach over to take his hand but he doesn't let me.

"Here," he es me a small, heart-shaped tin. We both step to the side as we stop walking, so I can open the tin to see what's inside. "I knew I wouldn't be able to tell you, do I found an alternative... I hope it's okay..."

Inside the tin are three little candy hearts, one of them displaying an E. I curiously flip over the other two and re-arrange them from S E Y to Y E S.

I clip the tin shut, take Talzi's hand, and kiss him. He freezes but accepts it. I smile when I'm done, breath having escaped my lungs. I was one word away from not getting him. I was one answer away from not being allowed the chance to kiss him anymore. If I had gotten the other answer, here in public, I don't know if I would have known what to do.

He wraps his hand around mine, smiling at me. "Come on, let's go to the arcade. To celebrate?"

I nod, smiling widely. "A second date?"

"A second date." He agreed.
