(Author's note: Yes, i'm starting another story. This is based on a brief dialogue segment in the anime Erased in the episode Grim Reaper, I can't recommend the series enough! Watch it if you haven't! Basically the main character writes manga and one of his stories is about the Grim Reaper, who makes an error and ends up killing somebody before their time, the rest of the story is about the Grim Reaper trying to fix their mistake, to do the right thing, but always failing. Inspiration struck and I am now writing this.)
(TW: mentions of death and violence)

Just another Tuesday

"What are you?"
A man asked as I walked up. I could see it in his eyes, he was scared, terrified of me. He wanted to run but he couldn't because he had died 5 minutes ago. Shot in an alley, such a poor and unfortunate way to go. He spoke but his lips didn't move. For any normal human being this would be a chilling sight, one to send shivers up your spine but to me this was just another day. You see, i'm not an ordinary human, i'm not even human at all, I am the grim reaper. It was no wonder why this man was scared, when a seven foot tall skeleton in a hood and cloak, wielding a scythe walks up to you of course you're going to be scared, but I still had a job to do. First, I answered his question.
"I am the grim reaper, I have come to free your immortal soul from it's body and guide you to the afterlife."
"What's there?"
"I am afraid that is a question I cannot answer for I do not know, a human dies every second so I must be active every second."
"Of every day?"
I simply nod
"Until people stop dying I am stuck on this earth to guide people who have ed on."
I tighten my grip on my scythe
"Now, will you allow me to do my work?"
"Do I really have a choice?"
"No, not really."
I press the blade to the corpse's chest and push, the blade sliding in and a bright blue glow forming, the mark of a new spirit being created. Slowly I see the soul climb out of the now open chest and I wait patiently. Soon it claws it's way out and a vaguely human figure stands before me, no features or hair just... vaguely human in form. I tap the bottom of my scythe on the ground twice and just as soon as they appear they're gone. Onto the next one.
