Scene One

The board

the scene opens in Claire's bedroom. Samantha, Emma, and Claire are playing with an Ouija board.

     Emma: Thanks again for inviting us to sleepover Claire! I almost had to go to a church party with my mom. I love church, but those parties are the dullest! Old ladies that smell like mothballs, and burnt casseroles, gross.

     Sam: Agreed, my little brother wanted to play ninjas all night. AGAIN! I can never catch a break!

     Claire: Well, you're both off the hook for tonight. And I found something in the basement I thought would be perfect for a sleepover!

Claire pulls an Ouija board out from under her bed. She sets it in the center of them.

     Claire: Ta-da! An Ouija board! Isn't it cool?

    Sam: Totally!

    Emma: I don't know if my mom would want me messing with one of those. She won't even let me watch stranger things. She says it will give me nightmares.

     Sam: oh don't be such a baby. Ouija boards are just a trick, they aren't real. They don't ACTUALLY summon ghosts.

     Claire: Yeah, and besides, what's the ghost gonna do? Boo us to death?

Claire and Sam laugh.

     Emma: okay...

Claire opens the box and pulls out the board. Sam squeals with excitement and Emma remains silent.

Scene Two

The game

The three girls begin to use the board. They summon a "ghost" and speak with it.

    Claire: What is your name?

    Board: Maribella

    Sam: How did you die?

    Board: Murder

A loud CRASH comes from downstairs

    Emma: What was that?

    Claire: I don't know, let's go check it out. Maybe it was a ghost!

Claire tries to frighten Emma.

     Claire: it was probably just my mom, she should be getting home about now from work.

The three girls descend down the stairs. The room below is dark. The light switch is across the room.

     Claire: Mom?... Mom is that you?

Claire crosses the room and flicks on the lights. A picture frame on the fireplace is now shattered on the floor and a lamp is knocked over. Claire sets the lamp back up.

     Sam: huh, weird. It was probably just the wind guys. Let's go back upstairs.

The temperature drops drastically.

     Emma: guys, I'm scared.

     Claire: everythings fine Emma. Calm down. I'm gonna go get a snack. You guys can head back upstairs and I'll see you in a minute.

The Two girls nod and head upstairs alone. Claire goes in the kitchen and makes a sandwich.

Scene three

The chase

The small window in the kitchen is open. Claire doesn't notice. She gets out ingredients to make a sandwich.

     Claire: geez it's cold.

Claire goes to the living room to turn up the heat. The thermostat is broken off the wall.

     Claire: What the heck?

In the basement floorboards creak. Claire runs back upstairs to the girls.

     Claire: I think someone is in the house!

    Sam: What!?

    Emma: I knew I should have went to that church party.

     Claire: it's fine, we can just walk out the front door, I think they're in the basement.

    Emma: think?

The girls go downstairs once again. The front door is jammed. They can't open it. Or the backdoor.

     Claire: I think we should split up and hide. I'm sure they won't find us. I'll grab a phone and wall 911. You guys go!

Sam and Emma go hide. Claire heads to the kitchen. The phone wires have been cut

    Claire: Crap

Claire races to the pantry. She opens the door. . .
