Witch Are You-Chapter 2

I finished chapter 2 of my story faster then I thought I would so I'll just post it early. Also be prepared for a cliff hanger cause why not.

It had been a week since the herb incident and Eralynn had been visiting Sophia every day. They would have dinner together at her house with her kids and talk about everything from food to books and art.

   One day when Eralynn was coming home from Sophias, later than usual, she was stopped by a guard.

  "Where are you coming from so late at night, ma'am?" The guard asked her

  "I was next door having dinner with my neighbor, Sophia. I didn't notice how late it had gotten." Eralynn told the guard

  "Some of the people around here have been telling us that you've been spending a lot of time with Sophia." The guard said "Why might that be?"

   "We've been eating together every night. That's all, sir." Eralynn said

  “I have been given orders from my higher ups to give you a warning. You are not to be seen with your neighbor, Sophia, for at least a few days. The rest of the people in the area have become worried of what you two might be doing. Given the recent circumstances I'm sure you understand.”

  “Yes, sir.” Eralynn said and continued walking toward her house. The guard came back over to her and grabbed her shoulder. Eralynn jumped, startled and slightly scared. The guard spun her around.

  “I just want you to know that I'm sorry. I'm sure you and Sopia were only having dinner, but I've been given orders to watch you two closely.” The guard told her. Then he winked and added, "Around five pm I do start to get tired, though. I wouldn't want anyone sneaking past me if I were to fall asleep while watching your house.”

  He let go of her shoulder and motioned for her to leave.

  “Thank you,” She said

  “Darik.” He told her

  “Thank you, Darik.” She said “Goodnight.”

  She left and walked home. When she got to her door and went inside she saw Sophia waiting for her at her dining table.

  “Sophia?” Eralynn siad, startled.

  “My kids,” She said with tears in her eyes “They're gone.”

  “What do you mean they're gone?” Eralynn asked “And how did you get in?”

  “I crawled through the window in the back of your house.” Sophia told her “I went outside for a minute to try and hear what that guard was talking to you about, and when I went back inside my sons were missing. I don't know where they went.”

  Sophia began to cry. As the tears rolled down her cheeks Eralynn walked over to her and hugged her. Sophia buried her head between Eralyns neck and shoulder and cried. They stayed like this for a few minutes until Sophia calmed down. When her crying ended she looked up at Raelynn who was still holding her.

  “I don't know what to do…” Sophia said

  “You look tired.” Eralynn said “Why don't we look for your kids together tomorrow. You should get some rest for now.”

  “All right.” Sophia said, standing up

  “Would you like me to walk you to the door?” Eralynn asked

  “No, I'm alright.” Sophia said

  She began to make her way to the door, but turned around when she reached it.

  “Now that I think about it,” She said, “I've never spent the night in my home without my kids. I don't think I'll like it. Do you mind if I sleep here?”

  “I don't mind at all.” Eralynn said “I'm warning you, though, there's only one bed.”

   “That's all right.” Sophia said “I've spent the night in much worse conditions.”

  Eralynn walked Sophia to the bedroom and helped her in. Then she went to the closet and grabbed a couple blankets and some pillows. She laid them down on the floor, and just as she was about to settle onto them, Sophia said,

  “You don't have to sleep on the floor. There's a lot of room in the end.”

  Slowly, Eralynn pulled aside part of the blankets and layed down on the bed. She pulled up the blankets and turned to face Sophia. She blushed and looked up at the ceiling. Her heart was beating so fast that it took her a while to fall asleep. When she finally did, though, she didn't dream. It was just darkness for a short while before she woke up to the sound of Sophia calling her name.

  “Eralynn!” Sophia called

  Eralynn haad forgotten that Sophia had shown up the night before. She suddenly felt anxious that something bad had possibly happened to Sophia, and strangely protective. Eralynn jumped out of bed and ran to the kitchen.

  “Hey, I made eggs.” Sophia said, handing Eralynn a plate of cooked eggs.

  She was about to begin eating when there was a knock at the door. Eralynn put the eggs down on the table and walked to the front door. She looked out a small holes an saw a guard standing, waiting for her to answer. She turned to Sophia.

  “It's a guard,” She said as quietly as she could “hide!”

  Sophia ran and hid under the bed. Eralynn opened the door and the guard stepped into the house.
