Summary-
"I can feel it," I said, barely above a whisper.
"Feel what?" Kia asked one of his eyebrows raised.
" IT." I said, placing a hand on the dashboard, "The music."
" And why is that?"
"Because I can't hear it."

~PROLOGUE~
" Are you sure you want to go through with this, Maya?" my principal, Mr. Jenkins inquired. He shuffled some papers in his hands, and handed them to me, "This is very, very brave of you to do this, you know that right?" he awkwardly sat back in his seat, and his leather chair creaked under his weight. The bald, heavy-set man gripped the edges of his chair, and his knuckles turned a peachy white.
"Yes," I said, my back straightening as I spoke. I grabbed the papers, quickly glancing over them before placing them into my bag. I then slowly got up and extended my hand for Mr. Jenkins to shake. I weakly smiled and grasped his hand.
"No one in our school, or someone like you, has ever decided to do this, it's very strange, in my opinion. But, I mean, it's your choice, the school can't put anything against you, Maya." he slowly stood up and also grasped my hand, "Does your mother know that you're doing this?"
"No. Why would she? This isn't really that important, is it?" I questioned. I never knew, choosing to have normal classes, and keeping my true identity hidden from the school was that big of a deal. I mean, it's actually for the best. I mean, right?
"Maya! This is extremely important! You know how this is affecting everyone? Teachers are going to have to change their teaching ways, because of you! And classes are going to be changed all because of you! I mean, yes, I see why you would choose this decision, but... you're not the only one being affected by.... Your..." he stopped, his mouth half open, he quickly covered his mouth, "I'm so," but he didn't have to finish. I quickly grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder, and opened the door.
I stood in the middle of the doorway, my back to him. I then turned my head to the left slightly, "Don't worry, they won't even notice me." and with that, I walked out the room.

I'm not going to lie, it's hard. It's hard to process everything that's going on around you. Even though you're crying and your mascara is running down the side of your cheeks, and you're flushed red with color. You just want to lay there and never wake up, like ever. And, no matter how tight you close your eyes, or how deep you dig your nails into your wrist, or how tight you clamp your lips together, it doesn't stop. What doesn't stop?
The silence.
It's there, and it's not leaving. Unfortunately.

The sun slowly eased down, retiring for the day. The sky turned from golden amber to dark pitch black, in matters of minutes. The moon woke up and lighted the path that my feet walked on. Very slowly.
I shoved my hands into my sweatshirt pockets and tilted my head down, my eyes glued to small cracks that covered the sidewalk.
Cracks.
Cracks that will never close, unless completely redone.
Cracks
Cracks that will never heal.
