Time to explore summoning powers! I really like this power and you see it in a lot of fantasy and supernatural stories! Heck even ninjas can use this!

Main Uses

Summoning. Need I say more? You can call forth different types of creature to fight for you or to help you get from place to place. This can range from animals to literal god’s of the universe. It’s never 100% clear exactly what you need to know to bring them forth, but it’s believed intensive knowledge is needed if you aren’t using an item. Creatures summoned with items can usually be used by anyone, while regular summons need more specific knowledge to get the right creature. At the very least you should know the creatures name.

These creatures can really come from anywhere and look like anything. From animals to actual people. More often than not, the summoned cannot go back to where they’re from until the reason they’re summoned is completed. (I’d love to see a show about a summoner who can only summon people and have it be like a sitcom. Need help with studying? “Summon teacher.” She’ll have no idea where she is, but heck she’s not going home until you understand this physics homework.)

Dark Side

Not all the things you summon are always going to be happy you yanked them out of where ever they just were. So they won’t always listen to their summoner. Often the summoner has to prove they are worthy of the creatures power before they can summon them. This can be done by doing a favor or fighting them, but if the agreement is mutual, it tends to work out the best for both parties. But not all summoners are so kind. Often they craft objects or spells that force the creatures and spirits to listen to them against their will, not caring for the creatures well being. This almost always ends badly for the summoner.

Other problems can be that the summon might not last long before the creature is sent back to where they came from. Or the creatures may have to find their own way back, which is likely to cause problems.

How it’s Described in writing

Something can be summoned from another place on the planet like teleporting or from another realm like a portal to another dimension. There are many ways this can be done, so let’s look at the popular ones.

talismans and charms-

These often are destroyed after they’re used. One use only for these. So people who use them typically have lots on hand. Usually in a bag or they know how to make them on the spot. (Actually it’d be interesting to see a story that goes into the process of these being made.)

spirits trapped in objects and people-

If a creature is trapped in an object, whoever owns that object will typically be in charge of its fate. If they ever want to be freed and can’t break out on their own, it’s in their best interest to do what the person in charge of their prison says. This has the creature reluctantly helping the summoner because they have something to gain from it like their freedom, or if it’s a contract, the s body and soul. If it’s trapped in your body, you both kinda have a bad deal if neither of you picked this outcome.this makes it harder to control since they’re with you 24\7, but if you can overcome that barrier, this type of summoner is way stronger than the one who uses objects.

circles and chants

This is the hands free summoning. Usually the high level stuff that the masters are into. They can use their powers to create circles that act like portals to other worlds for the creatures to cross over. It’s pretty self explanatory to be honest. You’ll see these types be able to summon armies of creatures to do your bidding for you. Want an army of unicorns? Go for it. Who’s gonna stop you? Ride off into the sunset with your unicorns fam.
