Farrah pulled away from Wesley, turning facing him. He half opened his eyes. Mumbling, he asked, “Is everything alright?”
Farrah took a moment to collect her thoughts before telling him. “I’ve never actually had a boyfriend before. I’ve never had a first kiss. I just… this is new to me and I’m not sure what I’m comfortable with yet.”
Wesley opened his eyes entirely, suddenly wide awake. He pushed himself into a sitting position, Farrah following suit. He ran a hand through his hair.
“Never?” he asked, double checking. Farrah nodded, worried and scared. Wesley took her hands and looked deeply into her eyes. “Farrah I will go at your pace. I don’t want to hurt you or scare you. Everything is up to you. When you say stop, I’ll stop. If you look uncomfortable, I’ll stop. I want you to tell me as we go,” he assured. Farrah felt the tension in her shoulders release, the weight lifting off her chest. She felt safer.
“Thank you,” she told him.
He shook his head. “Don’t thank me for human decency. I should be thanking you for being honest with me and letting me know. It’s easier when I know what you’re thinking,” he responded.
She squeezed his hands, feeling warmth blossom in her chest. She smiled meekly, feeling a bit awkward yet so appreciated.
“Well, then, tonight I think I’m okay if you sleep here. I’m not afraid of you, I just never slept in the same bed as someone I liked. It’s okay if we cuddle. I just don’t think I want you touching me anywhere else.” Wesley agreed whole-heartedly. “And,” Farrah continued, “I’m okay if we kiss.”
Wesley’s face lit up. “Can I kiss you right now?” Farrah smiled.
Wesley leaned in, Farrah doing the same. She didn’t feel rushed or forced. She felt safe and as though he wouldn’t chastise her for being inexperienced. As their lips met, nearly all the breath in Farrah’s lungs left her. His hand traveled to her neck and chin, holding her steady as their lips moved in unison. They leaned into each other, so in the moment; so soft and gentle. It was Farrah’s first kiss and it felt right. Naturally, she felt a bit ridiculous, but instinct told her what to do.
When they pulled apart, Farrah felt her cheeks burn with heat. Wesley’s face was slightly red, too. He grinned. “You have really soft lips,” he told her. Farrah giggled, leaning forward to kiss him gently once more.
“Goodnight Wesley,” she told him.
“Goodnight,” he responded.
Together they slept soundly, no expectations between them. There was no need to rush. They just were.
