Otome games, the dating sims for females. Although the only one I've actually played is Mystic Messenger, I am quite a fan of the concept of them. I'm not too familiar with otome games themselves, but I am a fan of reverse harems. They are not the same in many aspects, but I am appreciative of the genre and wanted to try make a world like it would be.
I made this as an entry for #MyLoidAU and I’m glad to do it! It was really fun to draw and think up the characters!
Long post ahead
For this AU, I chose a fantasy setting. One with magic, creatures and everything generic. Set in the Kingdom of Vocaloia, the characters' lives intersect at a school, a school for training bright young minds of the land. The Synth Royal Academy is mainly built for nobles, and commoners are generally looked down upon. However, our protagonist is special.
Rin Kagamine, a commoner from a small town in the corner of the kingdom. An intelligent yet kind girl. Beloved by her village, she had lived a sweet and easy life so far. One day, latent magic powers, stronger than anything else seen, were discovered hidden inside her. The kingdom ordered her to the academy in order to observe her ability. She often gets sick and collapses from the raging power inside of her. She does not have a predetermined personality because she is supposed to be the player and whatever choices they choose. Whether it is to help or hurt, that is who Rin Kagamine will become. There isn't much to say about her because it all depends on the player and what kind of person they make her to be.
Kaito Shion, the second prince of the Kingdom of Vocaloia. Student Council President, top of the class, fast and strong. Gifted in just about anything, he is incredibly popular with everyone. Such talent warrants jealousy and hate, but his kind nature wards of much of the criticism directed at him. Sometimes he can be a perfectionist, but it's only to himself, he is easier on others. Many want him to become king, but he wants no part in it. Kaito believes that his brother, the heir to the throne, deserves it more than him. Furthermore, he is the second son, making things more complicated. Although, he is not completely disinterested in it, but wants to choose not to pursue it because of his brother. He has his sensitive moments as well, although they often deal with his kindness.
He is the kind character that makes you feel loved and important. Some say that he is too boring, but others want their escapist fantasy and choose him, even if he seems flat sometimes. They say that his quiet moments when he indulges himself in the main character and asks for her help make them want to choose him. The unconditional kindness can get unrealistic sometimes and even a bit annoying though. His route is mostly dealing with the duke's daughter, Hatsune Miku, who is spreading rumors about them being engaged and Rin is a commoner out of line, trying to steal him.
Kamui Gakupo, I cannot express how sorry I am to you. I can never draw you looking good and I apologize a thousand times over for that >_<. I'll draw you decently someday... maybe... hopefully. Anyways, The first prince of the Kingdom of Vocaloia, but always second to his younger brother. For the longest time, he had always tried his best to be better and more worthy of claiming the throne; however, he could never measure up to the second prince. He developed an inferiority complex, and decided to run away from his duties.
A womanizer at the core, he escaped to castle many times to go on his own adventures. The only reason why he shows up at the academy is to have fun and play around. He abandoned everything, so naturally almost everyone wants Kaito to take the throne. However, the king is adamant in having the first son take it, and Kaito wants Gakupo to be king, so the expectations weighing on him are heavy. His younger brother is so gifted, why can't he just be king? During his route, the protagonist helps him make up with his younger brother and build confidence to continue his royal duties and become king. The king eventually dies in a touching scene and Gakupo ascends to the throne, proud to rule, but choking back tears.
Dex is a beastman. He was discriminated against for being one much of his life, serving as a knight Hatsune Miku. Abused by the stuck up duke's daughter, Dex became callous and jaded over time, hiding his emotions. Along with his strict knight training, he is initially cold to everyone, not mincing words and even emphasizing them to be cruel. Rin first gets to know him when she sees him hiding in a corner after the fireworks to start off the school year explode. He tries to play it off as cool and forces himself to look fine as he walks off.
Throughout many events, Dex warms up to Rin. Sometimes, they just hold hands for a really long time as Dex calms down. The route focuses on confronting Miku and recovery form his trauma. Once he opens up, he is a child on the inside. Stuck in his past, he just wants to relive a happy childhood with the person who helped him all along the way, Rin. He rids himself of his connection to Miku and ends up with Rin, pledging to serve as her personal life for the rest of his life.
Sorry as well Fukase, I forgot your face deformations stuff :/. Fukase is a child and there is no romantic option here. The story, instead, ends up with a younger brother, older sister type of relationship. Fukase, a young child of unknown origins, ends up in the academy because of mysterious reasons. Although young, he is a great genius, able to discover much about magic that has never been known before. He has been sequestered to a certain portion of the academy, unable to see many of the other students.
He also possesses a mysterious magic that caused one of his eyes to become completely red (and half of his body to deform). It happened after an experiment he was forced to conduct. Labeled a monster child by many, he lived much of his life unknown to most of the academy although being in the same building. He learns to show himself to the world and that he is not a monster, he is a gift. A sweet child who likes researching, but not the way he is forced to do it, his curious behavior accentuates the fact that he is a child. FYI, in one of his bad ends, he destroys the school.
Yuzuki Yukari's route is "technically" a friendship route, but it's definitely bait. A quirky noble who instantly hits it off and becomes friends with the main character, this is the easiest character to complete. Forced into an arranged marriage, she was originally alright with it, but is now hesitating. Once she met Rin, she realized that this guy might not be the one she actually wants. The idea where commoners look for the one they love to marry really struck with her, and now she wants to wait for who she wants to marry. However, that won't be enough to convince her parents.
This route is mainly about finding out what it means to marry and the importance of it. It also challenges other concepts generally held by nobles. Whether the best decision is to even marry in the first place is a dilemma Yukari faces. In the end, they weren't able to convince her parents, but they run away to another country together in order to pursue what they think should be done. It was hard on Yukari, leaving her parents, but she saw so many things wrong that she couldn't stay. They high-five each other, and it ends. Yukari is a bit possessive and is generally happy go lucky. She is very introspective and sometimes is very reckless, but other times carefully plans out what she wants to do, it really depends on what it is.

I’m Isekai trash
Isekai: another world. Transported from our world into a fantasy is so common, I love it. Who got transported this time? Well,
A lovely lady, I’m sure.
It’s a common trope in isekai, particularly ones aimed a girls, to have them reincarnate into the body of an otome game’s villainess. Depending on the story, they aim for different goals, although many times it has to do with avoiding destruction flags.
Our new protagonist, Hatsune Miku, was a young lady living in our world. She was a musician, infatuated with each and every kind of music. One day she died because of unknown reasons. Somehow, she woke up in the body of the villainess of the otome game she played in ing sometimes!! She didn’t really worry about the destruction ends because she tried her best to be kind. However, there was only old music in this world, and that was no good. She didn’t have pop, or rock, or electronic, or anything beyond the 5th century. Somehow, she must recreate the experience with the instruments she has!
Depicted above is Miku reliving her experiences of a rock concert. She really misses them, and always wanted to try smashing a guitar. The only thing she is good at is music, and she’s proud of her ability. Although, the closest she got was a lute, she is rich now so costs don’t matter, right? Everybody is very amused with her antics, but can’t really show it.
Eyyyy, protag-chan. You know how there’s choices for the routes? She always picks the joke option. It doesn’t get her any guys, usually, but it looks like she has fun. Although, um... some hearts have been broken with those snarky comments of hers for sure. She’s a ride to talk to, that’s for sure. Miku, however, enjoys her funny comments, so Rin has become attached to her. She can generally get along with everyone, but Miku is her closest friend so she spend most of her time with Miku
Everything he does has an ulterior motive to it. He isn’t nice to be nice. He is the living embodiment of BS. Full of pride, he makes up excuses and lies all the time, but does it kind of well, so people can’t usually tell. Think like Reigen from Mob Psycho 100. Maybe with a little bit of Teruhashi from Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan too. He’s paranoid of Miku because he feels she’s into him, but she’s just an idiot so he’s unnecessarily worrying. Not that he knows that. He’s good, I guess, deep down. You have to search a bit for it though.
He learned about the east, specifically samurai, from Miku. Now he is an otaku. Begging for stories from Miku, he is entranced with the nobility of these warriors. Also their swords are cool. He goes out with girls to have fun, but everything is completely platonic and they know it. He’s not afraid of relationships, he just doesn’t want any. Now, he doesn’t want to be king because it’s too much work and he’d much rather pursue his hobbies. It frustrates everyone, but they don’t want a samurai obsessed maniac to be king anyways.
Well, Miku is nice in this one, so he isn’t traumatized anymore. He is a bit straight laced though, because of his knight training. Since he was young, he had to take care of Miku, so he’s turned into a bit of a mom character, getting everyone in line. He’s trying not to smile in the picture, but utterly failing. Not as much of a childish personality anymore, he is more like a dog. A bit of an idiot, loyal, a muscle head, and unbelievably serious about whatever he does. Miku is obsessed with the ears, but he doesn’t mind; he kind of likes the attention from her.
A legal shota! Around 500 years old, he found the secret to eternal youth when he was very young. Endowed with reckless behavior because of it, his life is dedicated to research and trolling people. Recently, his antics have gotten him stuck in the academy. He can go out at any time, but what’s the fun in that? Despite his claims, he is an edgelord. Cooped up in his room all day with his outlook on life, what else could he be. Has some pretty shady connections with people, don’t mess with him under any circumstances.
She’s just full on yandere. Don’t you dare mess with anyone she likes. Friends, family, absolutely anyone she cares for will be cared for. You don’t want to know the lengths she goes to. With Miku, her arc eventually ends with her barging into her parents meeting and demanding to not marry her betrothed. Because of other events as well, she seems very ionate and they’re kind of scared, so she is allowed to marry who she wants, when she wants. She even makes out some negotiations to make sure they don’t go back on their word. It’s really a heartwarming scene.
Sorry that was so long, thank you for reading till the end! I wish I could improve on the concepts and characters, but there’s a time limit so that is all I can do. I really am isekai trash, so I’m glad I could do this. Bakarina is coming out with an anime, and I’m really excited for it! I like the resident idiot type of character, so this was fun to make. I haven’t really made many AUs and I want to improve this one since it’s bad, but I don’t have the energy or effort to do it. This took a while, so I hope you liked it!
