One of our patients had to go to the ER last night, HBC. Left rear leg is badly broken, knee is completely separated from upper and lower leg. ER quoted the owner $8,000 for repair with only a 20 percent chance of success. So on this Thursday, our day off, we will be coming in to do an amputation of the leg. It will probably be better on the dog as it is young and the recuperation for the repair would have been long and rough.

The doctor wanted to wait until the day of the surgery to put the dog on pain medication but had to do it today because the dog was in pain,

Why wait?
I mean it must hurt like hell and it is better to give pain medication as fast as possible until surgery

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the knee become completely detached from the rest of the leg before.
