TRIGGER WARNING: INCLUDES SELF-HARM, CUTTING AND BLOOD

“A cat's visual acuity is anywhere from 20/100 to 20/200, which means a cat has to be at 20 metres to see what an average human can see at 100 or 200 metres. Cats seem to be nearsighted, which means they can't see far objects as well. The ability to see close objects would be well-suited for hunting and capturing prey.” - Wikipedia

  Clover actually regretted reaping someone.

But she had no idea at that time. She had no idea that this was how things were at play. She had no idea that the consequences were this bad.

  Well, it's too late now.

She was looking for victims, and after looking across several neighborhoods, she saw a skinny tabby tortie named Bannick abusing its owner.

The owner and his family were nice. The owner was a corpulent boy with thin eyeglasses and seemed to be a bit smaller than what's seen for age.

She watched them for two weeks. Bannick got on her nerves as she saw him being rowdy and unruly in the Geltz household. Especially to his owner, Deegan.

  Bannick was a wreck.

He would constantly scratch Deegan whenever he found his food unsastifactory. He would complain of how slow his owner was in everything. He, more often than not, managed to ruin something every two days. He would bite Deegan's ankles and the rest of the Geltz family when he was tired. He would annoy his owners to death with him running back and forth across the room and getting his claws stuck on things. He would chew on literally anything.

The Geltz family was tired of his antics, everyone expect Deegan, who had the patience of a Bodhisattva.

So she thought "Reaping him is going to give this family rest."

  She was wrong.

  Very. Wrong.

Days after reaping him, she observed the Geltz family for one last time. Everything seemed fine at first, the parents had more lesser things to clean up and the house was more quiet.

  Then, she entered Deegan's room.

It was dark, the only source of light coming from his desktop screen. A low music came from it as well. The brown queen knew something didn't feel right.

Her dull brown eyes shrunk as she saw his chubby fingers hold something shiny and rectangular. She cried out to Deegan as he pressed it against his skin and drew blood.

She rushed around the room, looking for anything to alert the parents that their son is in pain.

She stopped, her white paws not letting her move as she saw the papers depicting gruesome works.

All of them were of him and Barrick dying.

  And pain.

These papers had explained why he had adopted Barrick.

He believed that he deserved pain but he needed a substitute for cutting. It didn't always work in school.

"No... No."

Clover felt like she wanted to die again all over again.

She ran outside and vexed the parents like Barrick would. She soiled her paws into the dirt and led them to Deegan's bedroom.

When she returned, she was too late.

She saw a Reaper, a human. He was way mature and taller than the boy.

In seeing the scene, she was mortified but knew what to do.

Deegan wasn't breathing anymore and he dropped the blade long ago.

In a fit of rage, she lunged at him and violently bit his ankle. Biting deep into his flesh as far as her teeth would allow. She tasted and smelled blood but ignored it. She did like what Barrick would do, but worse.

She was knocked off but managed to ricochet into his face and scratch his nape. She landed on the bed and she loudly hissed, her ears folding. She realized she had blood on her face. The man cursed out loudly.

Her white ears perked up as she heard the parents run to this way. The human noticed it too. Both Reapers ran out of the room, leaving the parents to face the horror of the death of their son screaming.

Clover woke up breathing in and out loudly with shrunken eyes. Her chest expanding and contracting as she looked at the empty ceiling. Those memories were too fresh in her mind. Jerome instantly reacted, the marbled tom ran to her side with worried eyes. "Clover! Are you okay?"

"N-No." After she said those words, she slowly regained composure. Her brown pelt remained nearly still minutes after. The tom sat by her side in silence, he knew what this was about. She looked up at him and he did so in return. "It's the same memory again. It's haunting me."

"Clevis, it's okay. All of it is in the past now." His brown eyes surrounded with an amber ring comforted the she-cat. She didn't like to it it but she missed being called by her past name. She didn't bother wearing her bull skull but wore her ribcage. Jerome meanwhile, remained still and quiet. Another day has come.

The two cats didn't speak for a while and stared at the other Reapers in the Terrarift wake up and do their morning routines. Some exercised, some talked to each other and some needed silence. Like them. Finally, Clover put on her bull skull mask and told Jerome something before she left. "You know me too well, Jem. If I see that pathetic excuse of a human again, I think I might kill him."

Jerome was left to his thoughts. He closed his eyes and tried to evade the horrors of Clover losing her temper. She already had a terrible rep for taking away Higashi's sight, he didn't want it to get worse. Although it was ironic, as Reapers, no one seems to care who you murdered but if you hurt a fellow Reaper everyone's eyes went hot. He went on with his way, doing his best to be happy.

This is very well written and my attention stayed through it till the end! My question is however, at the middle of it between the cutting, could there have been a way that this could've been less romanticized (*having nothing else to use to cope with the pain) than cutting? In no means am I saying that you're not a good author, you are! I'm simply curious if this was considered in the process of your beautiful writing?

I wasn't sure as how I can downplay what I've already written down for that scene. I stuck with the idea I had, that Deegan was low-key abusive to himself and somehow feels relief from the pain.

May I discuss this with you in a DM? You haven't done anything wrong or against the rules, and it's wonderful that you've put up warning signs! But prior to multiple discussions, I'd like to talk to you about it as a just in case for next time. ^^
