So, today is the day for the first #StrangerIsComing post, and today our topic is the undead. Since I can’t draw or edit that good, all my posts will probaly be fics and theories. And since I have a hard time theorizing what will happen to Lady Stoneheart and how Jon will get resurrected, today I’ll write a fic. With Davos in the head role of course. Seeing as he is connected to Melisandre, with her resurrection powers and all, Davos is actually a solid protagonist choice. Anyway, let’s start.

Davos Seaworth and Melisandre

Davos opened his eyes. He didn’t know how late is was, but it seemed to be morning. Davos had slept pretty bad. He had had nightmares. He couldn’t them very well, but he could recall his dead sons were there. Davos put the thoughts out of his mind and put on his clothes and then left his sleeping chamber in Dragonstone. When he left his chamber, he heard nothing. Absolutely nothing. That was strange. Davos made way to the main hall. It was empty. What was going on here? Davos went to Stannis’ chambers. All were empty. No Stannis, no Selyse, no Shireen, no nobody. He didn’t even hear Patchface and his helmet with bells. He made way to the chamber of the Painted Table. At first it seemed empty as well. Davos wanted to leave, but then he saw someone standing in the shadows in the corner of the room. When he approached, he saw who it was. Melisandre.

Of course it was her. Davos should have known she would be behind such a mysterious thing on Dragonstone. Melisandre had seen him as well. ‘I see you are still unaware Ser Davos.’ Davos frowned. What was he unaware about. ‘What have you done this time witch. Did you secretly burn Edric Storm and unleash some hell unto us, wanted or no?’ ‘I didn’t burn the boy. Because you didn’t want it to happen King Stannis didn’t allow it. So I tried other ways.’ ‘What for other ways. You already leeched him. How do you otherwise want to get his blood. If you cut off body parts I will kill you red woman.’ ‘The boy has all his limbs Ser Davos. Please calm down. What I tried was an ancient, secret and un well known R’hllor ritual. Besides from me and the Head Priest perhaps three others know about it.’ ‘And what happened then?’ ‘It went... I wouldn’t say wrong, but I can’t think another word to describe it. After it was done I tried to find someone to show it to, but I found nobody. When I returned to the chamber, the boy was gone.’ Davos suddenly felt sick. What for magic was that. He heard himself say: ‘Take me to the chamber.’

Edric Storm

Inside the chamber there wasn’t much. Just some kind of wooden table that Davos assumed was something that Melisandre used in her ritual. Then he suddenly heard something. It sounded like a moan. Not one of pleasure, nor one of fear. Davos didn’t know what for emotion to pin down on it. ‘Do you hear that to?’ He asked to Melisandre. She didn’t respond. The moaning got closer. Out of knowhere Davos felt a disturbence. Something was very wrong. Then a hand touched Davos’ shoulder. A green greyish withered hand. It was accompanied by a moan. And one word. ‘Brains.’ the Creature moaned. Davos quickly turned around, causing the hand to go off him. What he saw beat everything Davos had ever seen in craziness. It was Axell Florent, but then with a green greyish skin, calling for brains. Then he incinerated. ‘Wh... What happened?’ Davos stumbled. ‘The ritual has unleashed some terriple plague Ser Davos. Ser Axell, or whatever remained of him, showed that.’ ‘Was that an Other?’ ‘Similar, but not an creature of ice. Others are icy corpses. These are simply... corpses. We should leave the isle quickly Ser Davos. I would advise you to go to your keep on Cape Wrath, find your family, go as far east as you can and never return.’

’I’can’t. I have to find the king.’ ‘He himself has probaly fallen to this disease.’ ‘Isn’t he your savior? Could he even fall to such a sickness?’ Melisandre seemed to think on that. ‘You have a point Ser Davos. But this seems a force of the Great Other, and only R’hllor himself can face that creature. Let’s leave now.’ ‘Not until I find Stannis.’ Without talking any more, Davos left the room. Despite her wishes, Melisandre still followed him. ‘Your stubbornness will kill us all Ser Davos.’ Davos thought she might be right, altough his loyalty to Stannis was more a factor then his stubbornness. They made way to the courtyard. It was empty. Davos started shouting. ‘Your Grace, as your here?’ Then he heard moaning again, sounding exactly like Axell Florent had. But instead of one moan, there were hundreds. The entire castle, Davos thought. And soon the entire island probaly. The hoard was big. Hundreds of decayed walking dead people. Davos didn’t dare to look on the face of a little person with a dress, fearing to find a dead greyscale face. He saw Salla, and Maester Pylos. He saw Ser Roland Storm. And at the front, there was Stannis Baratheon himself, in all his kingly corpse glory.

Stannis kinda as a zombie

‘Well, as you can see Ser Davos, the king has fallen. Now take a ship and sail away. Or row else. You still have a family. I will hold them off. King Stannis is gone, and I have no purpose, exept stopping the Great Other, and I will die doing so. Now leave good Ser.’ And so Davos did. He never looked back, but he heard a lot of fire burning. After a while, Davos reached the shipyard. He wanted to board a ship, but then he heard a moan. He held his breath, but he didn’t hear other moans. Only one corpse followed him. It came from behind him. He turned around, and his heart broke and then again and another few times. The corpse was his son Devan. ‘My poor boy...’ Davos whispered. He knew what he needed to do and he wasn’t so happy about it. He needed to kill his own son. Don’t overthink it Davos, he told himself. He is already dead, he isn’t your son anymore.

Davos breathed in and out. He still wasn’t sure if he was ready do do this. He unsheated his sword and stoos ready to charge at the undead Devan. And so he did. But it went wrong. Dead Devan was quicker then Davos had thought and he dodged the attack, causing Davos to charge ahead. And then Devan bit Davos’ arm. Davos hadn’t thought that would happen. He looked at the bite wound. The flesh around it turned greyish and greenish, and it looked like it was decaying. Davos knew what was going on. He was horrified, he had t... Brains. Davos wanted brains. Brains. Brains. Brains. That thought would never leave the body that once belonged to Davos Seaworth, the body that would now help infect the Known World with this disease.

Actual real image of the Sword of the Morning trying (and failing) to stop the illness

Well, that was it, I hope you liked this story and it’s dark ending. Anyway, until next time.
