Who betrayed Rhaegar and Lyanna? How it all is started?

Probably Rhaegar and Lyanna starts to love each others during the tournament of Lord Whent, the Harrenal tournament, in the year of the false spring, in 281 AC (after Aegon's Conquest).

They know each other there, they felt in love with each others there.

She also pretended to be a knight...let's tell the truth, we all knows that the "Knight of the Laughing Tree" could be only Lyanna Stark...

Rhaegar should have found this knight because Aerys have told him to find he (she), because this knight have defeated three important knights and then he(she) were disappear beacuse he (she) had decided to not show the face under the elmet.

Rhaegar go to find this mysterious knight and he find he (she), or better, for me he find what he was looking for and, he took back the shield -as the books says- I think that they know better each others, that Rhaegar felt in love with Lyanna in this periode because, differently from his wife Elia Martell, Lyanna Stark was a north-woman, a strong woman, was a tomboy.

Elia was weak, and not very healty

So probably Rhaegar and Lyanna felt in love.

We know that in the Harrenal's tournament there were also Brandon Stark and as watcher(if I don't wrong) also Eddard and Benjen Stark. And we know that beacuse a tale of Meera Reed for Bran.

We know that Rhaegar nominate Lyanna "Queen of Love and Beauty" of the Tournament and this shock all the ladies and lords who were in Harrenal.

We also know, thankeful at the book of "The World of Ice and Fire" -pag. 127- there is a paragraph that says that Prince Rhaegar, at the start of the year 182 AC travels with six of his more trusted friends and he meets Lyanna Stark in Riverlands.

Winterfell is in the North, so why Lyanna Stark should be in Riverlands?

Because probably she was there for the wedding preparations of his brother Brandon and Catelyn Tully.

So probably she was in Riverrun.

How we all could , Catelyn was pretty happy to marry Brandon Stark, in fact, when then she had to marry Ned says that they had need some times for love each others.

In the period of Harrenal's Tournament (one year before), Ned Stark felt in love with Lady Ashara Dayne the sister of Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning.

We also know that while Littlefinger is in convalescence 'cuz he is wounded, Lysa Tully, Catelyn's sister has a "relationship" with him and then she is pregnant. Lord Hoster Tully, her father discover this thing and decides to make abort Lysa and send it away Petyr "Littlefinger" from Riverrun.

And, as we could , Hoster Tully was the protector of Littlefinger.

That means that Littlefinger felt like a victim because, he probably don't wanted Lysa's love, and because he was in the middle of a scandal.

So, this is probably the moment where all the Starks where in Riverrun.

So also LYANNA.

Finally we return here.

So, if we take attention for the book "The World of Ice and Fire" probably we can understand that Lyanna and Rhaegar met each others in this moment on the chronological line of the time.

And I am absolutely convinced that Littlefinger discovered that.

And that probably he have said to Rhaegar and Lyanna that he was saying all to the other Stark brothers that Lyanna was disappear with her consens -pratically acting like a friend, as he do- and in this occasion Rhaegar has give to him the famous Valyrian Steel Dagger.

Probably the Dagger was of the Targaryen's family and Rhaegar give the Dagger to Littlefinger as pledge for the that he was saying that he was giving to them.

So, probably he decided to"use" this dagger in a different way.

Maybe he went to Brandon Stark to show the dagger as proof that Rhaegar kidnaped Lyanna.

We know that Brandon Stark and Rickard Stark, the father of all the Starks (XD) went to King's Landing for Lyanna.

In King's Landing, we know, they find the death, because the Mad King, Aerys Targaryen don't want listen them and decides to make them burn alive in the Wildfire

Littlefinger, was very happy to not have anymore the rival Brandon Stark , and probably he thinked he finally could marry his loved Catelyn.

BUT

once Rickard Stark is dead, And, also Brandon Stark is dead, Eddard Stark should be the Lord of Winterfell, so, Catelyn have to marry him for the political marriage.

We also know, from a Catelyn's POV that Littlefinger wrote a letter to her, a letter that she never opened and that she burnt, also because she knew that she was promised to Ned.

I think that Littlefinger wanted to eliminate Brandon indirectly, and maybe also Ned, he knew for sure that puttin' the Starks against the Targaryens something should happened. So he did.

We know that Ned don't know exactly where his sister is.

When he arrives to the Tower of Joy he talks with Arthur Dayne and with others two knights of the King's Guard.

In the books, if I don't wrong, Ned says to them that he thinked to find them near the Red Fork of the Trident

(the most large and known river of Westeros)

with Rhaegar, or in Storm's End where there is the siege led by the Tyrell and the Redwayne who are then defeated.

IMPORTANT.

Ned goes from Storm's End to The Tower of Joy in Dorne. But we don't know how he know that she was there.

No one, in the books or in the show, explain to us that.

I thinked that behind all, not only behind Jon Arryn's death, there were him.

Probably him has plotted from the beginning.

So, for the love of Catelyn Tully, he tried to kill Brandon(done)and also, for years, Ned Stark.

He probably hoped that Ser Arthur Dayne kill Ned but he didn't knew that with Eddard there were Howland Reed, that with Ned, killed The Sword of the Morning.

The story of the

DAGGER

is very interesting.

In the show,

the story of the dagger is pretty different form the

books's one.

The dagger is of Littlefinger that loose it playing during a Tournament. Tyrion Lannister win it.

In the books Joffrey, we know, steal the dagger for give it to a killer for kill Brandon Stark for have the attention of his father Robert Baratheon- who said that was a merciful thing kill Bran-. Then the dagger return to Petyr by Catelyn who travel in King's Landing.

In the show seems that was Littlefinger the ones who wanted kill Bran

Why? Plot Black Hole.

After had back his Dagger he gives it to Bran, now the Three Eyed-Raven. Bran gives it to Arya and then she kills Littlefinger with it.

The King's Guard.

What we know about the King's Guard?

We know that the King's Guard must stay with the King. We know that because in a Bran's POV, Bran says that he would like become a King's Guard, and he explain what they do and that they MUST STAY WITH THE KING AND THE QUEEN.

Where the King's Guard memebers were during Robert's Ribellion?

•Jaime Lannister were with King Aerys Targaryen, the Mad King, in King's Landing.

We know that in the Trident with Rhaegar there were three memebers:

•Barristan Selmy (alive in the books, stand in Daenerys Targaryen's side/ dead in the show being in Daenerys' s side)

•Lewyn Martell (dead in the Trident)

•Jonothor Darry (dead in the Trident)

The last three of the King's Guard are:

•Ser Barristan Selmy, the Sword of the Morning

•Oswell Whent

•Gerold Hightower

With Lyanna Stark.

We know from the show that Rhaegar annulled his marriage with Elia Martell for, then, marry again in secret wedding with Lyanna Stark.

Annulling the marriage the childrens aren't the heirs to the Iron Throne anymore and Elia is not anymore the Queen.

There's a point, in one of the chapters of the First Book, where we read what is happened in the Tower of Joy by a Ned's Dream. In the dream we can read the dialogue with the memebers of the King's Guard. The last words that one of the knights says, Ser Gerold, is "The King's Guard don't run away"

What Ser Gerold meant was that Lyanna were the Queen. They wasn't running away they were protecting the Queen.

We also read in the same chapter that the King's Guard that was to the Tower of Joy knew that Aerys was dead.

If they knew that all the others Targaryen were dead maybe they said it to Lyanna who choosed the name Aegon, the name of Aegon VI, the other "dead" child of Rhaegar, for the little dead kid and for give to her children the name of Aegon the Conqueror.

That will explain the name "Aegon Targaryen" for Jon Snow.

George R.R. Martin don't say that but the marriage between Rhaegar and Lyanna was a thing that he thinked from the start.
