I've been thinking a lot about Stannis being the rightful king. On one hand he is the king through lineage because Robert didn't have any true heirs. On the other hand he would only be considered king through conquest. After reading Aegon's Conquest in the World of Ice and Fire, he wasn't considered king until after he was sworn in by the faith. So my question is when are you truly considered king?

Basically you are truly considered to be king when your name is Stannis Baratheon
You are king when you sit your ass on the Iron Throne. You can claim to be king of the North Iron Islands etc. But if you lay claim to all Westeros you need the throne. Thats what the Throne represents its like when youre a fighter yourd the champion when you have the belt not bc you claim youre the champion.
Had he been able to prove that Cersie's children were not Robert's, the Faith may have backed him. Think of how different it would have been had Stannis been in KL to help Ned's
cause.

You make a good point but he left his brother with the enemy. I don't get why they didn't get along. He got along with renly but not stannis.

There was a good amount of bitterness between Robert & Stannis. But I think his actions were to draw up a plan to confirm who fathered Cersie's children. Between LF, Cersie & Varys little could be done in secret in KL.

He never went back to help Robert out, but maybe he felt comfortable that renly was there so he wasn't technically alone.... why are they bitter?
Dany, the Great Khaleesi!
