The Starks were kings in the North before Aegon Targaryen conquered Westeros, and afterwards they were the main house of the North until after the events of Robert's Rebellion. If they didn't command respect, this wouldn't be the case.

I hate the stigma that since they are Honor-bound the Starks are stupid. This is not the case whatsoever, Ned wasn't dumb, Littlefinger was manipulating everyone in the capital including him. Robb wasn't dumb, he was put in a incredibly hard situation when he wasn't even a full grown adult (none of us could've done any better no matter what we say). Jon may be the smartest of them though, since he made his life's mission about stopping the dead at any cost which while may be stupid in the short term it ultimately is really smart in the long term.

Wisdom and Cleverness are subjective as well, the Starks aren't either politically but strategically are one of the best houses in Westeros.
