here is some information on my OC house for task 15 of the thronesfest challenge.
house skylar:
their sigil is a phoenix rising from the ashes
their house words are "from ashes we return"
their seat is at skytop point which is in the mountains of the vale, west of the fingers, south of the three sisters and north of the mountains of the moon.
they are a small house whose history is largely shrouded in mystery. the house was started by a bastard of house arryn who had been cast out by his family. he had spent alot of time trying to figure out what to do and strongly considered becoming a brother of the night's watch. it wasn't until he spent some time in the desolate mountains of his homeland, that he found his calling.
the of this house do not follow the same traditions as other houses of westeros. being that it is a small house, both men and women can become the leader of the house. also becoming the leader has nothing to do with having a noble birth. the lords and ladies of house skylar are chosen by the people (similar to the kingsmoot) during a ceremony which consists of climbing to the top of a treacherous mountain. this way, only the strongest and most deserving will attain the seat.
the people are known for their daring sense of adventure and have often been very misunderstood. most of them have been outcasts, exiles, bastards and misfits who have felt the need to prove themselves as powerful. therefore the symbol of the phoenix "rising from the ashes" fits them perfectly. they often live by a code that if you want something you have to earn it and take it. many of the people have been told before that they are nothing and would never amount to anything, this new sense of mind helps them to know that anything can be possible, if they try. this new system has been known to attract many new people to this house and therefore the house is constantly growing, however with the daring nature of the people and the treacherous environment they live, you will often find bodies laying at the bottom of the mountains and cliffs.
due to their mysterious nature, not much is known of them by other houses especially since they reside in the wilderness of the mountains. they have a sort of agreement with house arryn in which they do somewhat swear fealty, but being as the mountains are not easy to get around, they are rarely called upon and people who are not familiar with them do not dare come near. they are also with close proximity to the mountain men of the vale. there have been particular times in which a mountain man has come to try and raid their camps, but with no success so they rarely try to anymore.

the current lady of house skylar is ruby skylar (the lords and ladies take skylar as their surname after winning the house seat).
she is a red-haired huntress who is good with a bow and arrow. she was originally from a minor house of the riverlands until she had left. the reason she left was because her family set her up with a marriage promise that she had no intention of fulfilling. there was no way she was going to let a man rule her life, not to mention she preferred the company of women anyway. she had won the seat by making to the top of the mountain even after she was pushed off a great length by her competitor and broke her arm. she was always underestimated throughout her life but now that is no longer the case as the lady of house skylar.
