Move over Stannis there's a new Santa in town.

So I know this is bad, like really bad. Everything that could have gone wrong while drawing this probably did, but I pushed through. (mainly because I couldn't be bothered to start again) so here you have it, Sansa Claus for the #ArtChallenge

I started with a quick sketch using a letter H graphite pencil. I didn't worry about getting everything perfect, because I knew I'd fix it up later. Maybe. My main focus was getting each feature in roughly the right place as a guideline.

When I was (kinda) happy with it I got to colouring, starting with the eyes because they're the most expressive area of the face. It was going fairly well at this point, and I was moderately happy. Then I ran into my first problem, which you'll see below.

I have a three year old sister. I left my room for not even 5 minutes to grab a cup of tea, only to return to see her 'helping me'. I almost threw in the towel at this point. I put my stuff away and decided I was done.

But I was bored today, and I knew that I really wanted to enter this challenge. Soo against my better judgement I continued, with the knowledge that I'd have to make everything a little darker than I originally wanted.

But halfway through colouring the skin I realized that my pencils weren't blending. I still don't know why they weren't. I've used this paper and pencil combination hundreds of times. But of course this one time everything refused to blend.

I finished off the skin, after alot of swearing. It still had barely even blended but I didn't want to spend all day on this.

Moved onto the hat and hair, both of which seemed to want to cooperate a little better.

And then the nightmare was finally finished.

Time taken; roughly 3.5 hours

Materials; H graphite pencil, sketching paper (didn't have any thick stuff on hand) Derwent Coloured pencils.

I was originally going to do a romantic Stannerys scene, and even sketched a rough draft. However I later decided that considering I hate drawing more than one person in a scene (proportions are a bitch) I'd do this instead. So apologies to those people I'd promised something different to. I'll include my thumbnail sketch though, just for an extra something.
