Martin's saga brings to life a world unprecedented in its vast expansiveness. The show has done a great job in my opinion to include as much as possible, but it would be impossible to incorporate everything, including all the great characters.
•For this post I'm listing the book characters I miss most on the show•

I'm only focusing on characters central to the books, so Aegon "The Conquerer" or Cregan Stark don't count. Also, I'm mostly excluding characters I believe we'll eventually see in seasons such as Howland Reed and Rhaegar Targaryen. Lyn Corbray was a toss up for me since I think we might see him next season. Enjoy!

10) The Tattered Prince

The Tattered Prince is the founder and leader of the sellsword company known as The Windblown. He was chosen as the Prince of Pentos at a young age, but turned down the offer and ventured to the Disputed Lands. In "A Dance With Dragons" he crosses paths with one Quentyn Martell. The last mention of him is when Barristan sends Martell's companions to try and convince him to Dany's side. His price is small; all he wants is the city of Pentos.

To be fair, the show did offer us a representative of this character. However, he was never recognized as the youngest sibling of Balon Greyjoy or the highest priest of the drowned god often referred to as the Damphair. He plays a significant role in the affairs of the Ironborn and brings a strong counterpoint to Euron Greyjoy.

Arianne is the eldest child to Prince Doran Martell. She is ambitious, smart, strong, beautiful and calculating, making her the perfect player in the game of thrones. While I believe she still has a major role to play in the books, the show chose to consolidate her role with that of the sand snakes. In doing so they completely altered Martin's storyline from "A Feast For Crows" involving Arianne and Dorne. But the show's portrayal of Dorne is filled with disappointment.

Val is a wilding and was the sister to Dalla before she died in childbirth. Dalla was the wife of no less a man than the-King-Beyond-the-Wall, Mance Rayder. This causes Stannis in his ignorance of wilding customs to proclaim Val a princess. He may be incorrect about her official title but he recognizes how much the wildings ire her. She is extremely beautiful, tough, and does a lot to unite many of the wildings with the "black crows" on Jon's behest.

Prince Quentyn is the younger child of Doran Martell. While he as a character is mostly underwhelming, the storyline he has in "A Dance With Dragons" is anything but. His quest to find and wed Dany was a great part of the book, and I was hoping the show would use Trystane to fill this role. Once again, Dorne disappoints.

Belwas is sent by Illyrio to up with team Dany after her departure from Qarth. He's a tough eunuch who earned a fearsome reputation as a pit-fighter. He allows his opponents to cut him once before he kills them. He mainly wears a simple vest to show off his many cuts which are a sort of trophy to him for each kill. Unfortunately, he has a weakness for honeyed locusts. Hopefully we haven't seen the last of this entertaining and oddly endearing character.

JonCon once served as Hand to King Aerys II and was perhaps the closest companion of Aerys' son, Rhaegar. All that ended when he couldn't capture Robert Baratheon in the Battle of the Bells. Aerys exiled him but Connington's recently reemerged as the guardian of Rhaegar's son who's believed to be dead; the so-called Aegon VI. I believe the relationship between Jon and "Aegon" will become an interesting and possibly tragic storyline.

The latest Aegon presents an interesting storyline in "A Dance With Dragons" that has brought numerous theories and debates along with it. Presumed to be the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, Jon Connington and The Golden Company are backing his claim to the Iron Throne. If you've read some of my previous posts you're probably aware of my views on Aegon Blackfyre. Whether I'm right or wrong I feel rather confident he and JonCon would've made great additions to the show.

Catelyn's reemergence in the epilogue of "A Storm of Swords" may've been my favorite part of the book, at least from an emotional standpoint. After so much misery and injustice, namely the red wedding and Oberyn's death, here was Catelyn reanimated and showing the Freys the North always re. The storyline got more intriguing when we were shown Catelyn had become more monster than human, making her not much better than the people she sought vengeance against.

The Greyjoys and Martells featured in books four and five have been largely neglected by the show. I believe there's good reason for this but I still would've truly enjoyed seeing Balon Greyjoy's younger brother, Victarion. This even surprises me considering the man has nothing to offer outside of his fighting and battle skills. Even Martin refers to him as "dumb as a stump". However, I think the captain of the Iron Fleet comes off as a larger than life character who still has vulnerabilities and certain traits we can sympathize with.

Victarion #1, yes!
Awesome stuff
Thank you!
How did you decide which was ranked above another?
Just my own opinion.
That's why it's called "'MY' Missing Characters"
I think D & D missed so much by not including the plot lines for Arrianne, LS and Aegon/Faegon. The Aegon plot could have been included without the full detail provided in the books and would have added another very interesting layer of who may be in line for the Iron Throne.
D & D eliminated so much prophecy from their story and toned it down as much of it is so very impossible, but that is what we book readers have loved so much :dizzy:

We gotta give credit to AD for bringing it up. One thought I had was Quaithe. She's the one who's already brought up the "mummer's dragon".
