Hello Thrones Amino friends and foes! One of my comments in the last Elites Challenge (#ECJaimeResponse) got me in trouble and I was peer pressured into a new short fanfic series. I try to do one project at a time, but I’m a sucker for good creative ideas. This post is the result. Enjoy!
Murder at Winterfell
Everyone stood around the body speechless. The dagger was still buried deep in the back of Jaime Lannister’s neck. Brienne noticed a couple of smirks around the room and they made her fume with anger.
“What’s the meaning of all this?” The dragon queen pranced in the room, followed by the curly haired girl from Naath, the slave trader knight, and the unsullied captain.

“It looks like you don’t waste much time taking revenge, do you, your Grace?” a familiar voice broke the silence.
“And why would a dog presume to know the business of a Queen!” Daenerys snapped at the Hound. “Why would I kill my Hand’s own brother? Lord Tyrion is devastated!”
“You seemed quite protective of Golden Glove on the Goldroad!” Now the cocky sellsword Bronn decided to speak up. Brienne had a considerable distaste for the man, but he had been Jaime’s right hand for quite some time.

“That was war, Sellsword!” Danearys defended. “I could accuse you of settling debts as well! Rumor has it, he owed you a castle. How do we know you didn’t make a deal with Cersei? We all know you didn’t catch up with Ser Jaime until well after he was on his way north. Kingslayer for a Kingdom perhaps?”
“I’m sure everyone here had a reason to hate Jaime Lannister.” A young soft, but strong voice spoke. Brienne recognized Arya immediately. “Who cares about the Kingslayer anyway?”

“I care!” Brienne had enough of this! “Ser Jaime deserved better! No man in this room had half the decency of Ser Jaime!”
“Decency!” Sansa’s tone was sharp and incredulous.
Brienne reluctantly gave the floor to her liege Lady.
“Your decent knight pushed my brother, a little boy, out a window, hoping to kill him, and crippling him for life!” Sansa’s words were filled with bitterness. “Ser Jaime deserved what he got!”
“If we all got what we deserved, many more of us would be stretched out on this floor!” Ser Jorah Mormont’s cool voice eased some of the tension in the room. “We must be able to forgive past transgressions, if we’re going to work together to defeat the white walkers.”

“Speak for yourself slaver!” Bronn spoke indignantly. “How do I know I’m not next?”
“Where is Bran?” Podrick surprisingly spoke up. The boy was always slow to speak, and Brienne was surprised to hear him boldly addressing this strange crowd. “Wouldn’t he be able to find out who did it?”
“Bran is focusing on tracking the Night King and giving reports to Sam regularly.” All eyes moved toward the Wolf King of the North. “He doesn’t have time for this. We don’t have time for this!”
“My brother risked his life and the wrath of my sister to come here.” The formerly absent Tyrion moved towards the center of the crowd. Tyrion was the first to discover the body. He was supposedly grieving when others arrived. Brienne assumed he left to cry to his queen.

“He came up here to keep his oath, and warn us of Cersei’s treachery. Which one of you killed him!”
Yelling and cursing commenced throughout the crowd. Everyone found some reason to blame another.
“Enough!” yelled Snow, quieting the crowd. “All the while we bicker and argue, the white walkers are getting closer and closer to wiping us out!”
“Excuse me your Grace,” Ser Davos respectfully took the floor. “As long as Cersei’s assassin walks in the midst of us, we might all become new recruits for the Night King a little early!”
Mumbles were heard through the crowd after the words of Davos.
Jon contemplated all that was said and pondered a bit. “Lady Brienne!”

“Your Grace?” Brienne answered. She was surprised to hear her name.
“We really don’t have time for this, but for Tyrion’s sake, and for the fact that we can’t afford to have an enemy within our camp while we fight this war; I’ll give you and Podrick till nightfall to find out what you can and report back to me.” He then turned towards the rest of the crowd. “If Lady Brienne needs to speak with any of you, you will answer her questions, or your insubordination will be seen as evidence of guilt!”
More mumbles filtered through the crowd.
Jon, once again looked towards Brienne. “You have till nightfall, then your council will be needed as we make our plans to defeat the Night King...or die trying.”
With that, he left the scene, and others followed.
Brienne looked towards Jaime’s corpse once again. “Oh, Jaime!” she muttered to herself, heartbroken.

Whodunnit?
Please help Brienne solve this case!
Who do you think Brienne should interview first? Please make a choice or two and drop it in the comment section. Sorry, Bran is not an option! The top 3-4 choices will be the content of the next part of the series. Brienne only has a limited amount of time to solve this, so she needs to choose these interviews wisely.

Glad you are enjoying it! Can’t wait for your thoughts on part deux! :point_right:
This is such a brilliant piece of work! After reading, while all of the Northerners have a clear motive of hating Jaime, by brain is pointing towards Jorah because he really doesn't have a clear motive to murder. But if he actually did it, there may also be someone else involved. Can't wait to see what happens :ok_hand:
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment! Good reasoning. Jorah is definitely not in the clear.
I'm really happy someone killed him.
:joy: :joy:
