House of Heroes - House Stark

Angie's here again, and I'm going to be participating in a challenge at Thrones amino after a VERY long time... How long, two years? Yeah seems like it... Anyways! In this challenge for the Best House, I'll be rallying for

the House of Heroes,

Let me now begin telling you more about why House Stark is the best. Well, the honour, the chivalry, the righteousness, the valiance and the courage that the Starks have been known for since centuries is what makes them the greatest House out there. Now, for proving my point, I will be putting forth some instances where I literally went like, "Hands down, this is the BEST House ever!"

The Heroic Martyr

Yeah I'm biased or whatever, this man is a hero in every sense of the bloody word! He was as true to his word as was any other Stark mentioned in the show, because he lived up to what he said: “The Great War is coming, and I still fight for the living. I'll do what I can, as long as I can.” This man's sacrifice was the beginning of the Victory of the Living over the Dead. He saved Jon's life, without whom I'm sure the war couldn't have been won. Without whom, the unity of the living would have fallen apart. Without whom, the horrors of the Long Night would have become the reality of an eternity.

The man had courage enough to face the Army of the Dead alone, knowing he would die eventually. He managed to save Jon, and for that, he gave away his life like a true hero. The First Ranger, the first step towards the Victory of the Living, the one who was never afraid, and the one who always showed up on the right time. He saved the lives of both the Stark sons who would have otherwise died beyond the Wall. This scene of his death was the only scene where I actually cried, yeah... Red Wedding was easier for me than this, don't judge...

The King in the North

Ah! Where to even begin with Jon Snow. To have been called a bastard all his life, to have lived with the ancient order of the Night's Watch with murderers and thieves, to have become its Lord Commander, to have become a figure that even Wildlings looked up to, to have united all the northern houses under ONE name of House Stark, do we need more to crown him the King in the North?

A man who always saw the good in others, a man who always understood the greater goals, a man who resembled the Honourable Ned Stark the most. Yes I would rally to him, because he always gave everyone a second chance, because he made friends into his enemies, because he united his enemies and allies and led them like a king. Commanding the respect of every northern House and the Free Folk, Jon Snow was someone that everyone trusted, and so do I, with pride. To the King in the North! :wine_glass:

When Winter Came for House Frey

This episode drove me insane, like, really! I kept cheering for this girl mentally for like, hours. THAT is how you take revenge. A befitting revenge at that. Arya Stark has always been one of my favourite female characters in GoT and this particular instance is where my liking for her skyrocketed very high. The massacre, as I call it, that she quietly brought upon the Freys was even more satisfying than the deaths of Joffrey and Ramsay combined. That's so because the revenge was much more befitting, much more direct, and right out in the open for the Freys to see. It was like, she wants them to know she's punishing them for killing her family.

Nemesis, Karma, whatever we call it, it was just exactly what they deserved. A massacre for a massacre. Joffrey and Ramsay were killed, sure, but I always felt they deserved more of a punishment than what they got. But here, no sir! This was overwhelming, this was perfect, and this was justice.

Lord Commander Beyond the Wall

It takes great courage for someone to go right into the enemy's house with a number of comrades you could count on your fingertips, knowing that the number of enemies is countless. And it takes great diplomacy, presence of mind, convincing skills and the willingness to make the enemy side with you against the approaching dangers. Yes, Tormund was the main reason that the Free Folk chose to side with the Night's Watch, and of course, seeing the Army of the Dead with their own eyes was a plus, but the leadership with which Jon approached them, provided them with dragonglass daggers, and convinced them with patience, that was what made them look up to him as a leader, look up to him like they used to look up to Mance Rayder.

That made me so proud of Jon, honestly. Not like I've not been proud of him all the time, but this one moment was a moment of something greater than just pride. It was pride and iration. This almost made me say that this guy is forming a charismatic personality, and one day he'll be my favourite ruler out of all Kings of GoT. Well, that day is today. Jon Snow is amazing.

When the Little Dove Sang

Okay, I'll be honest, I wasn't very fond of Sansa since the beginning. She always gave me the spoilt brat vibes, then she began giving me the crybaby vibes and what not... But when I went through this episode of the Battle of Bastards, my heart that was sinking because of how the battle was turning out, gave a somersault when I saw the Knights of the Vale riding right into the battleground to fight alongside Jon. And my heart literally skipped a beat when I saw Sansa there, smirking in all her glory. I questioned myself twice, was it her who brought them?! She's... brilliant!

Yes, the first reaction that I gave to her was surprise, because I hadn't expected something like that from her. Second reaction was ecstasy, I was very happy and impressed with her diplomacy and wit, for being able to get the Knights of the Vale into the battle right on time. Thirdly, I found it commendable, how she changed from what she was, and what she became. From one who always needed protection, she transformed herself into the protector in a way. That was the best Sansa moment I know of, that made me this proud of her. That day I proudly accepted her as the elder daughter of Ned Stark.

The Man of Honour

The songs of praise for House Stark would never be complete if the name of Eddard Stark isn't included in them. This man is probably the personification of the word "Honour". He was never afraid to do the right thing. He was never afraid to confront the wrongdoers, no matter what position they held in court. Be it King, or Queen, or the Kingslayer, or Tywin Lannister or even his Mad Dog: Lord Eddard Stark, Warden of the North was always true to his word. He opposed Robert on killing Daenerys Targaryen, he raised Jon Snow with the safety of hiding his true identity, gave him his own name, made him strong and honourable like himself.

Not just so, he always intended to do things in the greater good of the realm. He had meaningful decisions like crowning Stannis Baratheon in Joffrey's stead. He was inquisitive as the Hand of the King should be, for he kept finding out clues that led him to Gendry, and he would have given him justice had he not disclosed his findings in front of Cersei, who he even went to the extent of exiling, to protect her and her children. Ned Stark was an idol, a true Northerner, and a mark of honour that every man in the Seven Kingdoms looked up to.

When Necessity Overrode Justice

It was a wave of relief that brushed past my soul when Jon drove the dagger into Daenerys Targaryen. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved Khaleesi in every sense of the statement, and I'm pretty much irked because of what D and D did to her in the last season. But since the Targaryen madness had taken its form, it had to brought to an end before it turned into

“BURN 'EM ALL!”

As our very own right here, we know it would have been more than just painful for Jon to drive a dagger into the heart of the woman he loved, the woman he had devoted himself to, the woman he called his queen.

As is said in the blog, it was Tyrion who pushed Jon into doing this, and it must've broken the man to do so, but he ultimately did it because the way Daenerys was speaking, was not the way a good, kind, just ruler would speak. It was her lips moving but the voice coming from inside was the Mad King's. Two Starks had already fallen prey to the Targaryen madness, and Jon, even though he was himself half Targaryen and half Stark, knew that it was important to put an end to it. And he knew the dangers that would befall him once he did so, but he still chose to do it. Once again, very proud of him.

You think I missed out on something? Something like Arya Stark killing the N- well. Let's just say I'm saving this information up for later...? ;)

I know we all have different opinions about the characters, the events and the actions that took place in the GoT world, and that's why I'm going to specify two things very clearly: first, this whole blog is a mirror to my perception about the Starks, composed of my opinions and the image they hold for me; and second, this is ENTIRELY based on the shows because I haven't read the books. I can feel an eerie glance on me because of the second thing I said... :sweat_smile:

Aaaaaaanyways, so that was my entry for the Best House challenge! I took special care to make this blog look like the type of blogs Jon likes :new_moon_with_face: sooo... let's see how it turns out. All the best to other participants!
