Euron is gonna be a lot of fun! I've got no idea what he is up to. I guess the closest quote I can find to sum up Euron's motives comes from Alfred speaking to Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight about the Joker. "Some people just want to watch the world burn."

But there definitely is a genius mixed in with Euron's madness. As he tells his brother Aeron Damphair in Forsaken chapter from The Winds of Winter after he leaves the Shield Islands. "Hold these islands, brother? I will be ed for taking them. When they are lost, they will be lost by the four fools who accepted my gifts." He is cunning and able. Now let's look at what Euron has set in motion and try to figure out what he is up to.
Victarion, fetch me my Queen!

Euron has dispatched Victarion and the Iron Fleet to bring him his bride, Danaerys Targaryen. But let's face it, he really wants her dragons. Victarion has Dragonbinder, an old Valyrian horn that binds dragons to man. Victarion may have plans of his own but as Moqorro points out in his visions he sees Victarion dancing on strings, strings controlled by Euron. And I believe Euron will get at least one dragon. George RR Martin has even let it slip. When asked about the Dance of Dragons, Martin replied "which one." Well as readers, we know only of the one, the black vs the green. So, we will be getting another Dance of Dragons in a coming book. Oh goodie!

And it appears Jaqen H'ghar has infiltrated the Citadel to get a book on all things dragon for Euron. We know from the Ghost of High Heart and Euron that Euron used a faceless man to kill Balon and stake his claim to the Iron Islands. And it probably cost him a dragon egg to do so. Does anyone believe he threw a dragon egg into the sea in one of his dark moods as he confessed to Victarion? No, I thought not.

Which brings us to the most perplexing part of Euron's plan. His collection of Holy Men. What use has he for them? Like DaRiN BHoY, I haven't a clue. But it shoulld be fun. He has his brother Aeron Damphair, a priest of the Drowned God. Two Warlocks from the East. He had three but he fed one to the other two. Jesus Christ! Nice guy right? Two priests of R'hillor. Oops, make that one. Seems he burnt one and that one died of his wounds. Oh and three septons from the green lands. Seems he didn't want to hear what they had to say because he removed their tongues. What does he plan to do with them? Well, for the moment it seems he plans to use them to curse his enemies in battle. Each of them hang from the prow of a longship as the Iron Born go into battle against the Redwyne fleet. Damphair hangs next to Falla Flowers, Euron's "salt wife", from the prow of Euron's own ship Silence.

So all this would and should point to a plan, some endgame that Euron is trying to achieve. But I don't believe this to be true. In the words of Everclear, I believe he wants to "swim out past the breakers and watch the world die." To illustrate this point, I'm going to do something I hate here, steal from the show to explain what's happening in the books, but I think it fits. In the show Euron is on the bridge to kill his brother Balon. And he tells him, "I am the storm, brother!" I think those words explain Euron best. He's there to spark the flame so the world can burn.

I think Euron is closest to the Bloodstone Emperor of YiTi. And if we look at him we can figure out Euron's plan. After all, Martin loves to use past events to foreshadow future events. Anyway, the Bloodstone Emperor cast down his sister the Amethyst Empress. He practiced necromancy and the dark arts bringing untold evil to the land. Man feasted upon man. Until finally, the Lion of the Night descended upon the earth ushering in the Long Night. And isn't that where we are in the story? On the cusp of another long night? And who better to invoke the wrath of the Gods than Euron Greyjoy? Bring on the doom! Bring on the night! Bring on the storm!
