Happy Incest Day

Keeping the intro short, sweet, and to the point as I’m quite late in posting today. Had to show my favorite lions some love, so here is a one shot for Lannister Twins from Jaime’s point of view. Here is my take on their ending, which will never feel right to me no matter how many different ways I attempt to write it. The art used for this blog is official art from the illustrated version of Game of Thrones!

Bound

Jaime’s legs carried him swiftly through the Red Keep, in search of the other half of his soul. The corridors seemed to shake around him, causing his already exhausted and wounded body to work twice as hard. Despite the Keep he used to call “home” threatening to collapse into ruins around him, his muscles guided him with mechanical precision and sheer willpower to reach her.

”Cersei!” He called for her as his legs carried him faster in panic. His eyes scanned dark corners and inside of rooms as he repeated her name, each call becoming more desperate in his relentless search. Heart racing, his pace quickened impossibly when he saw her. Cersei, clad in her black mourning gown that seemed so fitting and yet so incorrect for his sister who loved rich and lavish colors, crouched down with her arms covering her head as if to block out the entire world.

Jaime knelt down in front of her, relief washing over him in waves as he covered her smaller hands with his. “Cersei,” He said once again, quieter and calmer this time. Her eyes opened, revealing emerald orbs blown wide with sheer terror. “Look at me, Cersei!” He demanded, in his own gentle way that he always took with her.

Finally, her gaze lifted to him. The look of terror gave way to disbelief, as if it could not truly be her brother kneeling before her. “You’ve returned,” She stated hollowly, looking at him and moving her hands away from her face in order to remove his hands from her as well. She stood abruptly and wavered, seeming to ignore Jaime’s attempts to steady her. “Why now? You fool! You returned to die?” She scoffed, tilting her chin up with defiance.

Jaime recognized this facade; this false air of confidence she tried so hard to exude. She was terrified and needed walls to protect herself. Walls that would not crumble. The Kingslayer softened. Under normal circumstances, he would challenge his sister with some witty comeback and they would play this game of cat and mouse until the end of time, but time was something that they were losing. With his true hand, he held her chin lightly and looked into her green eyes with tenderness. He was no threat. Never to Cersei.

”I returned to be with you. To be where I belong.” Jaime stated with softness and confidence. There was no time to corner her, to chase her or beg her to chase him in return. There was only time for honesty and trying to save her. Cersei’s eyes gave her away, much like they always did. They lost their narrow edge of suspicion and softened, even giving way to tears that were long overdo to be shed. Jaime’s arm encircled her waist, pulling her in close as he brushed the tears from her face.

”You-! You are an idiot!” Cersei sobbed, but gripped desperately at Jaime’s cloak and buried her face in it to hide her tears. Foolish woman. Did she not know that hiding from him was not possible? He knew her heart and he always would. She was half of him. Another sob wracked through Cersei’s body before she cried, “You could have lived!”

”We will both live, Cersei, but you must listen to me!” Jaime grasped her tighter, sharing her desperation. “We have to leave. There is no time!” He tried to pull away from their embrace to remove his cloak, wanting to conceal her for their escape, but it was no use. Cersei merely shook her head with a look of sadness and acceptance in her eyes.

”No more running away, Jaime.” She said, touching his face and still, after all these years, sending a chill through him merely from her touch. Some thing were never meant to change, it seemed. His chest ached with the weight of her acceptance of death. He himself had made peace with the idea long ago, but the thought of Cersei’s last breath was enough to shatter him from within.

Jaime took the crown from Cersei’s head and dropped it on the stone beneath their feet. It clattered with a metallic clank and Cersei parted her lips as if to argue with his action, but he silenced her with a finger to her lips. “If we are to die now, I wish not to die as knight and queen but rather as who we truly are. In my eyes, you have always been Queen. The crown matters not.”

Cersei’s lips quirked into what was a semblance of a smile before her hand wove into his blonde hair, gripping it and pulling him down into a kiss that could have lasted until the end of time but still would not have been long enough for Jaime. They held each other close, hearts beating in time with each other as they stood with eyes for only one another. The last thing they saw would be each other.

”Until the end, then?” Cersei asked with her signature grin.

Jaime smiled. “And even after that.”
