Backstory:

Jack's Father was a werewolf, however his mother was a witch. In his fathers pack there was a rule to keep away from anything supernatural other than other werewolves.

His father's pack hadn't known of Jack until a few days before his parents were killed. The pack turned against his father and killed both him and his mother. Jack had managed to escape before he was found and until then had been living on his own.

Jack was sent a letter and offered a place in the same school of witchcraft as his mother. He wanted to know more about her so he accepted his place in the school, learning more and more. However he needed to keep safe before getting discovered what he was.
