ITS THEORY TIME BOIS!!! (TØP Theory)

DISCLAIMER

This isn't necessarily true. This is just some things that I've noticed throughout the Twenty Øne Piløts hiatus, coming back, Blurryface era and now in the Trench era. I don't mean to offend anyone who DOES like them and their music, since I too do enjoy their music, but I do want to post this and maybe get some input on all of it. ^^

Wassup mates, my name is Billie and today I'm coming at you with a little theory of mine. I have a feeling I'm gonna get some hate on this, so I'm just gonna state again THE DISCLAIMER ABOVE. "What is this incredible theory, Billie?" Well random person in the crowd, the theory is this.

Tyler Joseph from TØP purposely sold out, even though he said he wanted otherwise.

*all the die hard fans come @ me* "BUT BILLIE HE WOULD NEVER DO SUCH A THING TØP'S MUSIC IS SO AMAZING AND MAKES THEM SEPERATE FROM THE REST JUST LOOKIT blah blah blah blah."

I get it. I'm talking about your favorite band. And I'm sorry. I love their music too, I really do, but that doesnt mean I'm not UPSET by this. As I'm sitting here writing this, I'm wearing my banditø hoodie, and listening to Blurryface, and yeah. That band is one of my faves, but I do believe they sold out. Why do I think that, you ask? Well, here. Lemme show you my evidence.

A bit on the Hiatus

First off I'm gonna talk about the Hiatus. At the end of the Blurryface era, we all know that the band went on hiatus for a little over a year. This was the time I actually first listened to the band. I loved the album and I also listened to older ones, and I can say that self titled is my favorite. You can't beat Air Catcher and Implicit Demand for Proof.

During this time, we heard NOTHING from Tyler, and all of a sudden a hidden website pops up talking about some kind of weird organization called Dema. Okay, this was pretty friggin cool, but THEN we get to the MUSIC VIDEOS.

Jumpsuit

On July 11th, 2018 TØP came out with the first music video for the trench album.

This music video was Jumpsuit, and it shows Tyler as he makes his way through what? You guessed it!! A trench!! As he walks through he is followed by a man we assume to be Nico (shown/told to us in both the NATN music video and song) who is riding a horse and following after him. We then see Josh and the rest of the Banditøs watching from above and throwing down yellow petals.

This scene in and of itself is one that has sparked so many theories. "Tyler is Dead and they are mourning him" is a popular one I've heard. What do I think of it? Well, you'll have to find out later, because as I go on with this, it will be tied in.

Now, another thing I've seen pointed out is that when Nico touches him in the video, it's on his neck and hands. In the song he does state "I'll be right there, but you'll have to grab my throat and lift me in the air[...]I'll stop my plans, but you'll have to tie me down and then break both my hands." This is what I saw when I first heard it, but them people were noticing that this is where Tyler wore his blurryface makeup. That's when I started thinking about lore and stories and realized "Holy shit.... these are taking place at the same time."

Blurryface Era

For those of you that have been living under a rock and don't know, Blurryface is Tyler's personification of his anxiety and depression and is often represented through the vocals on the album as a deep, almost distorted voice while in the videos he has red eyes, and black makeup on his hands and neck. One video that he is shown in is the "Stressed Out" music video.

Nico and the Niners

Before continuing on with explaining how they are tied in with eachother, I wanna touch on the other two music videos.

For NATN, we see Dema and we see how Nico and the others treat Tyler and others; how they are all locked up, dressed the same way and more.

Nothing too extreme or relevant to this theory happens in this music video, other than at the end Nico goes after Tyler and the Banditøs.

Levitate

Ight mates, buckle up because this is where shit hits the fan.

During Levitate we see how all of the Banditøs act. They are all happy and they accept Tyler and are quite happy to have him there, especially Josh since the two of them are best friends.

At the end of the video, Tyler is seen hanging out with the Banditøs before Nico comes up and in front of EVERYONE (keep this in mind) he chokes him out, and drags him away without the others noticing.

What does all of this mean?

Hehehehe..... this.... this is insane.....

HERE IS WHAT I GOT FROM THE ALBUM, AND THE MUSIC VIDEOS.

(NOTE: I'm not even gonna touch on Morph, Neon Gravestones, Legend, Pet Cheetah and Leave The City.)

•Tyler be Tyler. Don't read into that.

•Nico and the Niners represent the Music Industry.

•His Jumpsuit is his "security blanket"; the thing that makes him feel safe.

•Dema is the box the music Industry makes its performers fit into

ALRIGHT SO GIVEN ALL OF THIS, BEFORE I CONTINUE IM GONNA SAY THIS.

One line during the bridge of "Smithereens" RIGHT OUT SAYS "Gor you, I'd go. Write a slick song just to show you the world. For you. I know. They think its messed up to sell out for your girl."...... he literally. Right there. Says. Out right. He sold out for Jenna. Cute, but I think a box of chocolates would've been a better idea :')

Now, back to the rest. What I can say is that

the three trench music videos show the story of Tyler and show that he has sold out.

Look at it this way with the things I stated before. The story is as follows.

Tyler was almost taken by the music Industry when creating Blurryface. We see this in the Jumpsuit video. His anxiety made him almost do it, fearing his music wasn't good enough, but instead he turns around and continues to do his own thing. I think we can all agree that one of the themes of Blurryface was that he didn't want to give into the music Industry and wanted to continue what he was doing with his music by himself. This theme can be seen in the following songs:

Fairly Local

As stated before I said I would explain the flower petals. The flower petals aren't for mourning Tyler, but they are for mourning the music. The music that once had a different beat and made them different changed and is now "dead". The petals don't just signify a new era, they signify the death of their music in general.

In NATN we see Tyler leaving with the banditos. Easy enough, he left to follow after his music and stay true to himself with the rebels and do his own thing..... but they wouldn't let him so easily.

Levitate we see Tyler finally expressing himself and being one with his music, using it to fully express himself without the fear of going back..... until Nico steps in and literally DRAGS HIM BACK. He is literary taken back and nobody. Even. Notices. They don't realize even though ITS HAPPENING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM!!! Notice how Josh isn't with him, but is with the Banditøs. You know what that means? He didn't want the band to change. He didn't want to give up his music. He didn't want this change he wanted to stay true to it, yet sadly that's not how things worked out. Tyler wanted things to change and the thing is, he knows it. It's sad, really how the music has changed. He wants his music to be played more, and honestly it should. They deserve it. But not this way. Not by just selling out.

But hey, that's JUST A THEORY!! A MUSIC THEORY!!!
