Don't be afraid to alter lore!!! If the cannon reality doesn't suit your needs/desires go to a parallel that does!
Example -->
Say you wanna shift to demon slayer but want/need an alternative to cannon demon lore for whatever reason. You can script that human food isn't actually disgusting to them, they're just allergice to a compound in the earth! Maybe this compound has already lost it's potency by the time it reaches humans and that's why the eat them. Introduce a foreign soil and boom! Human food eating demons!
It doesn't need to be so detailed, this is just the reality you want to go to! So make it fit that! "Yes, and" the universe basically.

I personally rename demons, because I don't shift as a human (I shift as a species I created). So, I call them some other name and get to giggle when the Hashira realize there are all sorts of fantastical, non-human beasts beyond their fight! :yum:
