Hi sisters, I’ve finally decided to share my Raydia high school au fic. It was originally just for fun and for myself, but I can’t exactly improve if i don’t share it and get :,)
In this au Claudia is the nerdy girl with no friends :pensive: , Rayla is the “hot new chick”🥵.
claudia has the gay for rayla but she’s in denial, but we all know how that’s gonna end ;)
also I was too lazy to write raylas sentences with scottish slang/a scottish accent ig?? so just imagine her sentences with an accent lmfao
part two will hopefully be up soon owo so enjoy

“Have you heard about the new girl?”
“Apparently she’s from scotland.”
“I heard that she’s a lesbian.”
It was a clear day at Xadia High, sunny and vibrant, yet Claudia couldn’t help but notice the storm this new girl was brewing.
The small town of Katolis never met people from new places. Everyone was familiar with everyone; everyone knew everything about you.
Claudia hated it.
She wanted to explore the world and meet new people, learn and try new things. But unfortunately she still had two years of school left before she could be free.
So when whispers of this new girl started arising, Claudia was thrilled. It was her chance to make a new friend and make new memories; she wanted to go to the dinner with new people and order something different on the menu instead of go with her family and be her usual self.
She wanted change, and that’s what this new girl was bringing.
Shoving her books under her arm, Claudia slammed her blue locker and sped to class, dodging through the horde of people in the halls. Through the chatter about the new girl, Claudia overheard multiple people mention a party that would take place on friday, but the thought quickly escaped her mind as she walked in her math class.
Her usual spot in the far corner of the room was taken by the new girl. And she was nothing Claudia expected.
In all honesty, Claudia expected nothing other than a smirk plastered on her face and a superior aura around her. However, she was met with anxious smile and an almost cowering figure. The girl was practically squirming in her seat as Claudia’s classmates kept glancing at her and whispering.
But she knew a girl like that would have no interest in a girl like Claudia. From looks alone, Claudia could tell the girl would soon be another one of those popular girls.
Sighing, Claudia trudged over to the seat in front of the girl. Setting her books down, Claudia glared at the girl behind the thickness of her dark hair. Before she could mention that this was her seat, the bell shrilled, announcing the beginning of class.
“Hello class,” Mr. Harrow spoke as he entered the classroom, which was answered by a few Hellos and Hi’s. The middle aged teacher scratched his beard, before asking a few students if they had finished their late homework.
Claudia had already completed the homework, and the practice test, as well as done extra work, so she grabbed a blank paper from her binder and began working on another project.
“Hey, can you help me?”
Claudia sharply turned her head to look at the new girl, surprised that she had talked to Claudia, let alone acknowledge her.
Claudia’s expression must have seemed confused, because the girl said, “I have all these classes today, but I got no idea where they are.”
For a moment Claudia couldn’t comprehend what she had said, until her brain finally kicked itself.
“Show me your schedule,” was all Claudia said.
She watched as the girl pulled out an extremely messy, crumpled piece of paper and cringed. The girl chuckled nervously before handing it to Claudia.
“What’s your name?” Claudia whispered, as Mr. Harrow began speaking of the homework Claudia had finished- and aced.
“Rayla,” she answered.
“Pretty.”
Claudia examined Rayla schedule closely, but from the corner of her eye she could see Rayla staring at her, feeling like she was being judged. Per usual she ignored it; being considered the “nerd” of the school brought on a lot of teasing, whispers, and stares.
“We have chemistry together,” Claudia pointed out.
“What?” Rayla said, dumbfounded. A small blush creeped onto her cheeks, and Claudia had to hide her giggle.
“Next period. Chemistry,” Claudia motioned to the scribbled schedule. “Seems like we have similar classes, so you can just follow me around if you’d like.”
Rayla nodded, her pearly white hair shining in the light. Claudia starred at her for a second too long, catching Raylas eye for an awkward moment.
Turning back to the teacher, Claudia pretended to nod along to what he was saying, but in reality she was thinking about her chemistry class. She had no partner for the group project, something she didn’t mind at all, but it was likely that Ms Amaya would tell Rayla to go with her.
She felt a strange feeling in her stomach, although she couldn’t quite tell if it was bad.
“Psst.”
Claudia snapped her head to the side, where her annoying, jock brother, Soren, was sitting.
“What?” She whispered.
Soren smirked and nodded his head to the new girl. “She single?”
“Oh my god Soren.”
Claudia ignored him for the rest of class, instead doodling in her notebook.
When the bell rang and everyone bolted out of class, only Claudia, Rayla, and another boy, Callum, were left.
“So umm, just follow me I guess,” Claudia said as she packed her supplies. “Do you need to go to your locker?”
Rayla pointed to the “Chemistry 11” book in her arms. “Nah,” she added.
“Okay. So, most of the science classes and math classes are in the west side of school,” Claudia began walking out of the class, not looking back to see if Rayla was following. “The art classes are upstairs, PE is almost always outside, and-“ She broke off when she noticed Rayla wasn’t there, and she was already out of the class.
Turning back, she saw Mr harrow give her a funny look. Rayla had gotten distracted and was talking with the shy boy, Callum.
Staring for a moment, Claudia could see how nervous Callum was and how oblivious Rayla was to his slight discomfort. She pointed to his sketchbook and he quickly swiped it off his desk and into his arms, like a child grasping on to their favourite teddy bear.
Deciding that none of this was worth her time, Claudia turned around and walked to Chemistry class alone.
It’s not that I care that they were talking, she assured herself, but that Rayla didn’t care enough about class to follow me.
Pushing her glasses farther up the bridge of her nose, Claudia wove through the crowd of smelly teens as fast she could. She thought she heard a distant voice yell her name, but she was already too far gone.
Entering the Chemistry class, she took her seat at the front of the class this time. Claudia never liked to be seated in the front of every class, nor in the back of every class, so she had differed spots for her classes.
Following procedure, Claudia took her black cardigan off, cuffed the sleeves of her purple sweater and put on a lab coat. Strangely, most of the white ones were gone, leaving the rarely used black coats.
Shrugging it on, Claudia sat down again.
A disgruntled Rayla soon entered the class, but Claudia hadn’t even noticed.
Ms. Amaya was a very chill teacher and let the class continue their projects without giving some long, boring talk beforehand, so Claudia went to the supply closet to grab her newly needed supplies.
The class was meant to create a chemical reaction using only the items in the classroom, and Claudia had gotten an even better idea than her original plan.
As she grabbed a package of gloves, the door behind her clicked shut.
“Why did you run away?”
Claudia whirled around, so fast that she threw the gloves across the closet, nearly missing Rayla, who was leaning against the door.
“Um, what?” Claudia asked sheepishly, embarrassed that she hadn’t even ed the question.
“Why did you run when you saw me with that boy?” Rayla repeated.
“Oh, uhh...” Claudia stammered, unable to come up with an excuse other than “Because I was jealous”.
“I didn’t want to be late,” she said, though her tone made it sound like more of a question.
“I called after you.”
“I didn’t hear you.”
“Uh huh. Well, I won’t be bothering ya anymore,” Rayla gave a quick wave of her hand, turning to leave.
“Wait,” Claudia pleaded. “Is that- do you-”
“Have four fingers only? Yes. I was born that way. Very hard to flip people off,” Rayla chuckled, lifting her hand to show Claudia.
“I find it cool. It just shows me how different people are, how unique every individual is- I’m sorry, you probably don’t want to hear me talk nonsense. I don’t blame you, most people don’t. Most people don’t even pay attention. But-”
“I would love to hear you talk,” Rayla interrupted, placing a hand on Claudia’s shoulder. She swore she felt a spark of electricity through her body from that touch alone. “But we’ve been in here for, what, five minutes? I don’t want people assuming things,” Rayla laughed.
Right, because being stuck in a closet with me is the worst thing in the world, Claudia thought.
“Well, you go first. I need to find things,” Claudia said shortly, turning around abruptly to pretend to search the shelves.
