                                             Part 3

Gren's pov.

The sun was beginning to set beyond the mountains of katolis by the time Dan and I made it back to the small village. "Oh please pleease be open!" Gren pleadted underneath his breath.

Gren wasn't sure when the bakery closed for the night, but he knew it was getting very late. It would probably already be closed. Although he would miss his strawberry shortcake, up to this point, today had been perfect! Being able to play all day in the woods, and with his best friend nonetheless. Gren decided no matter what, nothing could ruin this perfect day. Even going without his favorite dessert.

The village was small, with only a handful of old worn down buildings. The Village had been here for over 70 years and it was easy to see. Some buildings no longer had doors in the doorways, while others had broken windows. The bakery was near the middle, Gren got nervous when he saw people packing up for the day. The butcher cleaning his knives, the blacksmith cleaning his iron stove, and the baker cleaning his oven…

Oh no. Gren thought as he peered into the window, and said. Mr. Baker, do you happen to have anything left to sell? The baker turned around and smiled when he saw Him. "Gren! I was beginning to wonder if you were coming at all". "Y-you we're expecting me?" "Oh but of course! Your mom has come here every year on your birthday asking for the very same thing every year".

" Strawberry shortcake". "So do you have any left?" Gren asked. "Just one." The Baker said, handing the pasty to Gren. "It's a little cold, but you came so late I"..."It's fine!" Gren interrupted as he happily took it from the Baker's hand. "Thank you so much!" "It's worth two pieces right?" "Oh no, for you my boy, it's free". "Really!?"

"Thank you!" "Your welcome Gren," you deserve it. Then the baker rested a hand on Gren's shoulder and looked him in the eye. "You're a hard worker Gren, if you keep it up, I think you will do great things". Gren felt pride building up in his chest. No one ever believed in him so strongly. "Thank you Baker, I'll do my best". I "know you will". The baker said. "Now". "You two should be getting home. It will be pitch black before you know it". "Don't worry, we will" Dan said. Let's go Gren!
