A/N: so I wrote the original story a while ago and it turned into a 10 chapter story about Rayla being callums guard! Well I was reading it to myself after I finished it (because it became a struggle to write it) and decided I needed to rewrite it (which I think is why it was so hard for me to write it). Feel free to read the original fanfic (scroll down a bit on my page) but the pacing was bad and it felt rush -also somewhat cringy- in any case now this (originally) 10 chapter fanfic is over 42 chapters :) so without further ado here’s a guard and her prince rewritten! i shoved clothes into my bag before pushing i walked over and locked my bedroom door so my foster mom couldn't get in. i heard the "open this door!" my foster mother screamed trying to open my door i zipped my bag close and opened a window "child!" she screamed trying to open the door, i climbed out the window as she got in. jumping down i took off running as she screamed my name, i ran for a while until i came upon a few guards "watch it kid!" one of them snapped "sorry" i squeaked backing away from them "i wasn't paying attention" i whispered before he could snap at me the other guard spoke "runaan it's a kid leave him alone" i flinched at being called a guy but i couldn't blame them i wasn't exactly built like a girl and my short hair didn't help -despite it only being short because my foster mom was transphobic and refused to acknowledge that i was a girl-, i was about to turn away when the other guard spoke "you ever want to become a guard? " He asked and the question caught me off guard "uh i never really thought about it..." i whispered. "well we could always use new recruits" the guard smiled "Ethari no he's too scrawny to be a guard" runaan spoke "and? I've known some scrawny guards" Ethari spoke "I'll do it I'll the guard team" i spoke as the paired turned to me "you sure?" he asked "yes" i spoke quickly this was the fastest way out of here without my foster mom knowing "let's go then." Ethari spoke. i followed the two guards for a while until we reached a camp.
"Welcome back i see you two brought someone with you" someone spoke walking over to us "he wants to the guard force." runaan spoke "kind of scrawny for a guard" the captain spoke "what's your name kid?" he asked "ray" i replied i wasnt about to give them my legal name or my preferred name this was my ticket out of here and i wasn't about to push my luck by them finding out i was a girl "you'll be under their command for now until we figure out where to place you" the captain spoke "but any guard under our command gose to the royal guard and their visiting tomorrow is this a good idea?" runaan asked "maybe not but you brought him back he's your responsibility." the captain snapped "besides he might just surprise you" they spoke walking away " alright kid i hope you can keep up:" runaan spoke "you won't be disappointed sir" i smiled.
