Hi! This is the post explaining how guns work, and why on The Singularity.
Keep in mind that we know it's possible for guns to be more advanced. They have drawbacks because this is a fantasy community, with a time era comparable to medieval times (we didn't even plan for guns to exist here). Guns are the way they are because they're too overpowering otherwise, not because of 'science' or something.
But first, some
«Gun»
"a weapon incorporating a metal tube from which bullets, shells, or other missiles are propelled by explosive force, typically making a characteristic loud, sharp noise"
Definition provided by Google
«Reloading»
The action of placing a new bullet, shell, or cartridge into a gun.
«Attack Startup Time»
The time between when one begins an attack and when the damage can be done. For example, the time between pulling out a sword and swinging it, or the time between pulling a trigger and the gun firing.
«Turn»
A roleplay "turn" is a message one sends in which they describe their actions. In combat roleplaying, it's required that fighters alternate turns so as to prevent autohitting. Once a turn is posted, it can not be added to or taken back, with the exception of when someone accidentally presses the send button.
And Now The Explanation of The Gun Dilemma
Guns are very powerful weapons. Even when the first wheel-lock firearm was made in 1509, they overpowered anything else, provided that they were loaded. Guns attack practically instantly when the trigger is pulled, are undodgeable by human means, have better range than any other personal weapon (even when comparing magic on this Amino), and do high amounts of damage.
Compare this to any other weapon, and you'll see the only thing the gun fails at is preparation- it takes quite a bit of time to load a weapon. However, it can be loaded hours, even days before use, meaning that one carrying a loaded gun always has the means to start and immediately and any fight.
So, Gale and I originally were thinking about requiring a minimum amount of turns spent reloading. However, when considering what was just said, we realized that while a reload time would help decrease the overwhelming advantage guns has in combat, it still provided an uncontested height over any other form of attack during the start of a battle, as long as the had assumed they'd be needing a loaded gun in the next few months.
And So, the Solution
Instead of a time between reloading and being able to pull the trigger, the steampunk guns of The Singularity have a time between pulling the trigger and then firing. In return, there is no longer a reload speed.
This effectively does the same thing as a reload speed would, except this will take away the insane advantage a gun would have at the beginning of a fight.
It adds a layer of depth and strategy to using a gun, as the has to plan ahead for the time when the bullet will be fired. At the same time, it preserves the incredible speed and range a gun attack has, as well as decent accuracy. We hope this'll make guns more interesting, deeper, and less overpowering, while still retaining their identity and some strong advantages as guns.
Le Official Rules
Gun Roleplaying
• Guns must have a 1-turn (or more, if the chooses) wait between pulling the trigger and the gun firing.
This means that there will always be at least one turn of the gun 's opponent between when the trigger is pulled and when the gun is fired.
The gun always fires after the same amount of turns, and can only be changed with modification.
• Gale and I will no longer moderate the accuracy of guns, with the exception of taking it to ridiculous levels
Guns no longer need terrible accuracy, but we will get involved if there is excessive great accuracy.
• Gale and I will no longer fully moderate reloading speeds, meaning that reloading and trigger pulling can be done in the same turn.
You can reload and pull the trigger, or do other actions, in the same turn. that firing won't commence until at at least the next turn, though.
• Automatic guns aren’t advanced enough for personal use.
They’re large and expensive enough that they’re only rarely used on airships.
Make sure to ask if you need any clarification!

I... I think guns with scopes still needs skill to be used anyway.
Reply to: Stalachite.exe has stopped working...
That's why I wanted one with no scope as It would push me to be better
Pew..
It works since guns had a slight delay anyways
