My bewitched gaze seemed to stare as I watched his drawn up face fall like the rain storming outside. I listened as his sobs began to drift through our apartment, his mood turning as gloomy as the weather, the yellowed specked eyes he held creating a downpour of their own. And now I waited, as his head lay rested against the frosted glass, a million thoughts swirling in his mind, but with only one thing concerning him.

My ceramic hands clutched the slender handle of one of our many mugs, the heat radiating off the warm beverage burning my bony knuckles. A fluff filled blanket was draped across my frame, the end sweeping across the floor. With my footsteps slow and creaking, I made my way to the shivering boy in the corner.

”Phil.” I cooed, untangling the comforter from my arm, and unlacing my pale white fingers from the piping hot drink. “I brought you a blanket. And some coffee. You need to warm up you’re shaking.” I spoke, my tone raspy and soft, the words hardly audible. We both stood still, no motion between us, as the steam from the drink rose to the sky, casting a frosted film on the window already covered by a thick sheen of rain. The low hum of “thank you” fell out of his mouth, the dead silence hanging in the air much more uncomfortable than the cold. Laying the blanket on his dropped shoulders, I wrapped my lengthy arms around his quivering torso, gliding my hands up and down his biceps.

”Hey, sweetie, its ok. You need to calm down. Its only a little rain! We can have our picnic tomorrow bud its gonna be ok.” I said, my words motivational and comforting, but my tone flat, like fizzled out champagne.

”But its not ok Dan! Dont you understand that we have to have our picnic today, or it wont be perfect.” He yelled, a growl ripping through his throat, as he tugged his body out of my embrace.

I pondered on that for a minute, replying the words over in my head, like a broken, choppy record. “Well, what if we still have the picnic?” I questioned, Phil’s eyebrows peeking up in interest as he turned to face me.

”W-what do you mean?” He choked, his voice cracking from tears, but his features full of hope.

”What if we had it in the rain?” I proposed, not being able to stop a giddy smile spreading across my lips, as I watched Phil bound up to get get his coat.

Tangling his hand with mine, we both sprung down the steps from our flat, our legs moving in perfect rhythm. My gaze connected with my feet as they sloshed around in the slushy mess crowding the ground. But with are heads held high, and hopes rocketing up to the heavens, we set off to the one place that would make this rainy trip worth it.

Time skip

The warmth I’d been craving all day hit my skin, as I watched Phil’s face light up along with the sky. “It stopped raining!” He gasped, beautifully mixed eyes twinkling in glee. Without thinking, I instinctively pressed my lips to his, the kiss shooting a tingling feeling through both of us. With the blush of embarrassment flooding both of our cheeks, I kept my eyes locked on my beautiful boyfriend that stood before me. Flashing him a smile, I watched as Phil gazed up towards the sky. His slender hand pointed to where he was looking, his features stretching in shock.

”Its a rainbow.” Phil marveled, as I turned to look at the natural wonder shimmering between the clouds.

When I whipped back around, I was met with Phil crouched on one knee, a ring glinting from the new colors illuminating the sky.
