Chapter one : what is the master quest ?

The master quest in ocatina of time was originally, on the Nintendo 64, a different cartridge from the original game. It was sealed with the original game, in two cartridges one with the regular game, the other the master quest. On 3ds, it's a bit different. Indeed, the master quest is unlockable after completing a first time the regular game.

To be simple, it's a (way) harder version of ocarina of time with some differences. For exemple every damage you take are double. That include the attacks of the enemies, falling in a hole, touching lava etc... The puzzles are way different too, and even some foes appear in inappropriate dungeons. And the map is in mirror with a Link who becomes right-handed instead of left-handed.

But to do this master quest you need to be correctly prepared. And how ? Let's see that.

Chapter two : how to prepare it ?

To prepare it, it seems to be simple but it's very hard. You need to know the game in every details. Yes you need to know the game by heart. Including :

The strategy to beat the bosses

The golden skultulas' places

The heartpieces' places

The map

The holes' places

The ennemies' attacks

That seems to be easy hm ? Well to make it simple absolutely not. It's necessary to spent hours of our time on the main game to prepare correctly the thing. Possibly by doing multiple games of the regular mode. Or once if you are a pro or masochistic.

Fore the bosses, a way could be to, on 3DS, fight again and again (when you're at Link's home, near the bed) the bosses until the no damage or near. On Nintendo 64 I don't know, or you do again the game or you refight the bosses like on 3DS.

But now you are prepared you need to complete the master quest. How to do so ?

Chapter three : how to beat it ?

There is some things you need to know. First, you need to pay attention to every little details which can be a little hidden. That will really help. Second, you need to be careful.

Indeed, in this mode the ennemies, the falls etc... everything which can cause damages see it's damages becoming twice more important. An ennemy make you lose half of a heart in the regular game ? It's one full heart in master quest. Falling in a hole like in the death mountain, it's loosing two hearts instead of one in regular mode.

And to recover the resistance we had in regular mode before having double resistance to damage we need to wait the Ganondorf's castle and having the golden gloves. But you still need being careful because of the ennemies and holes in the Ganon's castle.
