Why I prefer the original OOT and MM graphics (& animation) to their remakes:

Both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Masks are beloved masterpieces of the Legend of Zelda, both of which have had 3DS remakes that have particularly improved upon the graphics, visual designs and animation. This seems to stand out as the main difference from the original versions, and while the graphics/animation/visual designs are no doubt objectively better and very much upgraded from the original OOT and MM, and I can see why many would prefer this, I personally actually prefer the original, outdated graphics from their respective, original Nintendo 64 releases. It may sound like a rather crazy, kind of unpopular opinion no doubt, but the truth is I am just kind of old-fashioned and retro like that, as I prefer classic, original stuff, be it films, video games, tv shows etc. to remakes, and in this case, it is the old-fashioned, outdated graphics that I favour due to their retro, classic, nostaglic feel.

This probably applies to Ocarina of Time in particular, as that game of course has slightly worse graphics than its sequel, Majora's Mask, but the Nintendo 64 version is how I'll always know the game as; whenever I think of this game, its this version with these outdated graphics that comes to mind straight away. Besides, I don't even think the graphics/visual designs for that game where even that bad for back then in 1998, especially when you compare it to a lot of other 3D games that had been released in the 90s, such as the Super Mario games and Residential Evil. I mean I guess it can depend on the person and their own personal experience, such as if they're just so used to playing games with more enhanced graphics and visuals, but for me, these old-fashioned graphics are what make the game the classic it is, giving it that classic legacy.

The Majora's Mask 3DS remake on the other hand, and I've even seen a few people say this, ruins and undermines the dark, creepy, eerie theme that the original N64 Majora's Mask heavily conveyed, as it was the original, fainter, older graphics and visual designs that made it come across as more dark and creepy, whereas the lightened and enhanced graphics/visuals don't express this vibe as much. The older, darker graphics definitely made it seem a lot creepier and darker, something you just can't sense as much from the 3DS remake.

As for the animation in the 3DS remakes, its clear to see that has also been enhanced with much faster movements in both gameplay and cutscenes. While I can see that Link moving as slow as he did in the original OOT could be a bit of a pain, its mainly in the cutscenes I guess I find it just doesn't feel quite right, as its that older, classic, retro animation that I feel takes more time to absorb and appreciate with its slower movements, with scenes lasting longer and giving off more of an emotional vibe. In Majora's Mask this didn't even matter really as Link could run much faster with the bunny hood of course.

So yeah, I think while the graphics/visual designs/animation may be objectively a lot better for these games in the 3DS remakes, and I can understand why others may prefer it, I actually prefer the original graphics/visual designs/animation due to their original, classic, retro vibes they give off and the pure nostalgia they mean to me. In the case of Majora's Mask as well, I think it is most significant like a lot of people have said that the older graphics of the N64 contribute heavily to the dark, creepy, eerie vibe of the game, which the lighter, newer graphics of the 3DS defeating that concept a bit. Whenever I think of OOT and MM, it's the original N64 versions that come to mind, 'cause they are the official OOT and MM to me, and simply what I know them as. The graphics and visuals, and even animation perhaps were slightly better in MM than in OOT when looking at the originals, but even with OOT, although easily outdated, they really weren't that bad for their time. I feel the modern, lighter, 3DS graphics/visuals kind of defeat the nostalgia vibe a bit, as it's not how I know and those games as. I might do a poll on this too, that might be interesting! :)

Oh and even though this is unrelated to the actual games themselves, but I also much prefer home consoles to handheld consoles as I'm dyspraxic having poor hand-eye co-ordination as well so its a lot easier for me to play home consoles as far as controls go! :)
