So, I’ve got a ton of really great ideas for an Ocarina of Time movie trilogy. And I’m also terrified that, because of the success of the Mario Bros. movie, it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo does a Zelda movie next, and I’m afraid they just won’t do it justice. Maybe I’m crazy for doing this, but I’m writing down my ideas and I’ve got about 30 pages of solid scenes with dialogue so far.

I’m starting the story long before the Great Deku Tree calls upon Navi. So it’ll start with a dramatic scene of Link’s injured mother fleeing the war, and then I want to show what life is like in the Forest while Link is growing up. So the audience can get a feel for his bond with Saria like she’s his big sister / best friend / surrogate mother, and also how Link reacts to Mido’s rejection over the years.

My question for this group is, ideally, how young should Link be when he’s introduced in the movie (assuming you’re okay with the existence of a Zelda trilogy)? I’ve got some scenes with age 5 or 6 year old Link learning to navigate the Lost Woods, but would it be fun to meet cute little toddler Link playing with the fairies and trying to run out the Forest exit before the other Kokiri children stop him? Let me know what you think.
