I personally really do not like Ilia from Twilight Princess, finding her to be a really grating, one-dimensional, simpering Mary-Sue who contributes nothing and serves no connection to the main plot, being there simply to serve as Link's love interest. She was my one major niggle with Twilight Princess, as it irritated me how she kept popping up, with there being a constant focus on her, yet she contributes nothing and has no connection to the main plot, making her romance thread with Link most grating, along with how we aren't made to feel for her as a character, being simply forced upon players. It annoys me when I actually see people say they ship Link and Ilia, as how can they when we aren't given anything to feel about their relationship, as it lacks in any dimensions or depth just like Ilia's character, being purely on the surface. It annoyed me how various characters would ire Ilia throughout the game going on about how adorable and amazing Ilia was, simply screaming Mary-Sue, along with the way she was portrayed to be all pretty, sweet and simpering, with a constant "Look at how caring she is" statement being made about her, being very much on the surface of course.
I deliberately avoid finishing restoring Ilia's memory now as I just can't stand to see that very obvious romance cutscene of Ilia ing Link and everyone leaving them in privacy, a scene which not only doesn't fit in with the main story but also doesn't mean anything to us, makes it hard for us to feel anything for it that is. I've seen people even compare that scene to the Anju and Kafei reunion scene from Majora's Mask, and I'm just like "Noooo" but sadly I realize it does seem to very much share some parallels. What annoys me too is that this is arguably the most obvious romance Link has ever had in the game's series (Skyward Sword Link & Zelda may be an exception but at least that fits in with the main plot!)and that scene of her seeing him off in the end credits is most painful, like you'd think after everything he's been through they'd have moved on from this, and again it means nothing to us. It's just painful I find that she is objectively his most cannonical, realistic love interest in this game, yet (in my opinion at least), she is easily the worst love interest/romance thread Link has ever had in the series.
But anyways, that is just my opinion and I am still interested in seeing what others think whether it be the same as mine or not, so vote away below on what you thought of Twilight Princess's Ilia:
