PSA: Spam Posts/How To Deal With Bots

Hello, BATIM Amino! I’m back today to post about a topic I’ve seen reappearing over and over in this community: the course of action many are taking when dealing with bot s. I am not intending to discuss the issue of bots, and any reports or discussions about the bots themselves should be posted elsewhere. However, I would like to explain how the issue should be properly handled to avoid any conflict or consequence.

*•.¸♡ Spam Posting ♡¸.•*

You may have seen a few blog posts in the community feed discussing a message or encounter with a bot . You might have even made one yourself. But these types of posts are considered to be spam by the mod team. The majority of this community already knows of the issue, and these “report” blogs have become too repetitive and frequent to be allowed. Any reports of bot s are to be left on a Leader’s , with the exception of joke posts or blogs with creative content (memes, drawings, etc). Any blogs that only consist of a screenshot and an “I found a bot!” message count as spam.

*•.¸♡ Dealing With Bots ♡¸.•*

An encounter with a bot or scammer can be a frightening experience, especially with the drama surrounding the issue. The most important rule to , however, is to NEVER click on a link sent by a bot . The bot cannot do any harm to your phone as long as the link is left alone; a bot can only perform limited actions (starting a chat and posting a message, for example) and nothing further. Don’t let curiosity get the best of you, as it’s not worth the risk of accidentally ing malware or a virus onto your device. As soon as you see the chat request sent, DO NOT IT. Take a screenshot of the request, report and block the bot , and notify a Leader directly so they can take further action. Again, this is not a matter to be posted about on the main community feed.

*•.¸♡ Blocking ♡¸.•*

Once a screenshot has been taken of a bot’s chat request, the next course of action is to block and report the to prevent them from messaging you again. Click on the ’s profile picture icon in the chat, but don’t accept the chat invitation or the link. This will take you to the bot’s profile. From here, click the three dots in the top-right of the page.

This will open up a menu with several options, including the options to block and report the . To do either of these operations, simply click on them.

The best option is to report AND block the member to eliminate the problem quicker.

*•.¸♡ Managing Chats ♡¸.•*

To prevent any and all bots from messaging you in the first place, you have the option to toggle your chat request settings. First, open the left side menu and scroll all the way down until you see the “Settings” option.

Enter “Settings”, and you’ll find the “allow inbound chat requests” option. Select this.

From here, you can toggle your chat settings from “everyone” to “ I’m following”, or disable chats altogether. No matter which option is chosen, you can still request to chat with any other member.

*•.¸♡ ing Leaders ♡¸.•*

Many , especially those new to Amino, face the challenge of finding a to take complaints to when they need to report something. Thankfully, there’s a simple way to find a complete list of all the s in the community. Open the left side menu and scroll to “All ”.

Selecting this option will display a list of every current community member, starting with a complete list of s.

It’s important to that all bot s should be reported to a Leader specifically, not a Curator. Curators do not have the power to ban profiles, and can only hide them.

*•.¸♡ Deleting Your Post ♡¸.•*

Back on the topic of spam posts, there may come a time where you’ll need to delete a post that you made, unaware that it was spam. Using one of my old posts as an example, go into the post you made and click the three dots in the top-right corner.

This will open an options menu, with a “Delete” option in red. Click on this and confirm that you wish to delete your post.

While this may seem like a scary issue to deal with, it won’t be a cause for alarm as long as you proceed properly and follow the correct procedure. to never click on strange links from people you don’t know, and always reach out to the s if there’s a problem you need assistance with. Stay safe! ^^
