Henry headcanons (& tweaked design)

You can’t stop me.

Anywas, first off; I’m really surprised people liked my take on Henry and his flaws! It’s really motivating to see, especially because it was my first time making an analysis-type post.

segue into the topic of this post; these flaws are why I made a different version of him that appeals more to me (AKA just make him Gordon Freeman except with a bigger backstory and stuff. Ik, I’m obsessed).

Good news for anyone who cares: I’m busy making a huge wiki about my headcanon Henry! It’s still a work in progress, but I’m hoping I can have it finished as soon as possible. These following headcanons will be included in it.

I also kinda changed his design, since his hair was infuriating to try and draw at different angles. All the little strands confused me, so I made it a little easier on myself (because I’m so bad at being able to redraw characters the same way). Let’s hope it looks better.

I hope he also looks more distinct body type-wise?? Idk.

1. Henry lost his voice.

After leaving Joey Drew Studios, Henry found out he had developed chronic laryngitis due to chemical fumes produced by the ink (+ all the people who smoked there). That, paired with him being prone to getting a hoarse voice when he had a cold by still going to work and having long discussions with people, wasn’t ideal.

It caused his voice to become unrecognizable and undetectable, and it only became worse. After a couple of weeks, Linda took him to a doctor. Henry had to learn to live without a voice, learning asl and otherwise writing things down.

It’s also the reason he drinks the bacon soup, it’s the only thing he can drink in the studio that can stop his throat from becoming irritated and dry.

2. Henry is really tall

And with that I mean that he’s literally taller than anyone in the studio. I love me some small boy Henry and tall boy Joey, but the concept of gentle giant Henry and decompressed Joey is slept on too much and so I’m gonna run with it.

This means that yes, he’s about twice Joey’s size. Not only is Henry tall, but Joey is also short :)

3. Henry totally had a crush on Joey

Because Joey has a crush on Henry in my headcanon, I wanted that Henry used to reciprocate his feelings. They both never act on it, and Henry gave up after a couple of years because he started to see Joey’s true colors and their relationship turned sour. Then he met Linda, who made him feel appreciated and heard, and ever since his crush for Joey had disintegrated.

4. Henry left in 1934

I’m doing this for specific reasons.

I want Henry to have worked longer at the studio to show his deteriorating mental state as he worked there. I also want there to be some specific sort of conflict between Joey and Henry regarding Heavenly Toys and expanding the studio greatly, so yeah. Might make a comic/write a story about that.

There will be a timeline of events in my wiki to make it easier on both you and me to figure out the escalation of events in my headcanon.

There are many more headcanons I have (some containing semi-spoilers for The Illusion of Living since they’re based on it) but these are all I’m gonna show you for now. The rest will be in the wiki.
